Life Isn't Always What You Expect
High School Return of A Gangster wastes no time throwing us into the whirlwind life of Kim Deuk-pal, a respected (and slightly beleaguered) second-in-command of a prominent gang. We find him struggling through a math test, much to the disappointment of his concerned teacher. This heartwarming scene is quickly interrupted by the arrival of Deuk-pal's colleagues, who announce the capture of a rogue gang member, Kwang-soo.
The teacher's condescending tone towards Deuk-pal instantly evaporates when he learns of Deuk-pal's high rank. However, Deuk-pal, a man of unexpected reverence, insists on the teacher being treated with respect.
Things take a turn for the worse when Kwang-soo escapes and threatens the teacher with a knife. Deuk-pal, ever the protector, swiftly disarms Kwang-soo, showcasing his impressive fighting skills – a clear indication of his position within the gang.
A Bridge Between Worlds
After dealing with the chaos, Deuk-pal visits the gang's leader, the Chairman. He expresses his concerns about Kwang-soo's potential defection to a rival gang. The Chairman, however, remains unfazed, urging Deuk-pal to focus on his studies and prepare to take over the gang.
On his way back, Deuk-pal encounters a young student, Yi-heon, on the brink of suicide. In a selfless act, Deuk-pal saves Yi-heon from jumping off a bridge, only to be struck by a truck himself.
Deuk-pal awakens in a hospital bed, but something is different. He's in Yi-heon's body. The confusion deepens when his gang members arrive, not to offer well wishes, but to exact revenge on Yi-heon for past transgressions.
A New Identity, A New Fight
Desperate to return to his own body, Deuk-pal attempts to explain the situation, but no one believes him. He even resorts to jumping off the bridge again, only to wake up with a broken foot.
Despite the setbacks, Deuk-pal finds a silver lining. He discovers Yi-heon's diary, revealing a life plagued by bullying and neglect. Fueled by a sense of justice and a desire to honor Yi-heon, Deuk-pal decides to embrace this new identity and fight for the boy who couldn't fight for himself.
Unveiling a Dark Secret
Learning the ropes of Yi-heon's life, Deuk-pal uncovers a potential scandal. The Chairman's secretary, Mi-kyung, seems to be manipulating Yi-heon's mother, possibly aiming to remove them from the inheritance picture.
Transformation and a New Chapter
Deuk-pal undergoes a physical transformation, changing his appearance and training his body to be a worthy vessel for his fighting spirit. He even bumps into Se-kyung, a classmate who seems to recognize the change in Yi-heon, but not entirely.
School's Out, But Trouble's Back
With a new haircut and a newfound purpose, Deuk-pal, now Yi-heon, returns to school. His transformation stuns his classmates, especially the bullies who used to torment him. Unable to resist the opportunity for revenge, the bullies challenge Yi-heon to a fight. However, Deuk-pal quickly discovers that Yi-heon's body isn't quite as strong as his fighting spirit. The episode ends with Yi-heon knocked out cold, leaving us wondering if he'll be able to navigate the treacherous waters of high school life.
