The Beginning of the End
Episode 10 specifically uses several flashbacks to tell the origin story of Luthen and Kleya.
Luthen once participated in a massacre on a planet at the edge of the galaxy. He abhorred the Empire's brutal acts, and in his most desperate moment, he accidentally saved an indigenous girl.

At that time, Luthen, who was in utter despair, was already like a walking dead. This act of saving the girl gave him decades more of life and also became the opportunity for him to start his resistance cause. In other words, the redemption between Luthen and Kleya was mutual from the very beginning, which is somewhat different from the relationship between Maarva and Cassian.
During the journey of selling antiques with Luthen, Kleya showed extraordinary business talent and a talent for deception (or perhaps these two are one and the same). At the same time, she also had a good teacher.

Interestingly, although the driving force behind both of them making money and rebelling is their hatred for the Empire, they have formed a father-daughter-like relationship because of this.
Compared to Luthen, the young Kleya was obviously unable to control her anger. She longed for battle and revenge, and enjoyed the thrill of bloodshed. For this, Luthen could only patiently teach her the difference between reckless courage and acting with a well-thought-out plan, as well as the principle of using resentment patiently and effectively.

Of course, Kleya at this age couldn't listen to such great truths, so the first thing Luthen had to teach her was to obey orders strictly: "You can only move when I say so."
When their cause made further progress, Luthen finally gave Kleya the opportunity to experience a riot up close, and took this chance to tell her that they were embarking on "a lonely path that would make them lose everything"—even though he still couldn't bear to let the child take action personally.

In Andor, no revolutionary is perfect (and this is one of the excellent aspects of Andor). Luthen's greatest flaw and limitation is that he is a walking dead who rose from the ruins. His starting point and end are filled with despair. Kleya's essence is inevitably filled with darkness.
The only remaining light in their hearts can only be each other, relying on one another for survival.

Coming to the present, the communication station, which had been silent under the Empire's strict control for a long time, suddenly flickered with signals. Knowing that the risk of showing up at this time was extremely high, the two still couldn't ignore it... When Luthen said "move" to Kleya at this moment, there was no harshness or reprimand at all, only the relief and affection before parting.
It was Lonni who took the risk to meet Luthen. After secretly logging into Dedra's hidden account for a year, he discovered the secret of the Death Star.

Now Lonni knew that he could no longer stay in hiding and had to escape Coruscant immediately. But the Rebel forces had been evacuating since a year ago, and now the only one he could count on was Luthen, who had forced him to stay in ISB.
Luthen was only interested in the weapon intelligence that Lonni brought as a bargaining chip. Once he got the intelligence, he immediately killed Lonni.

Luthen was already having a hard time protecting himself, so how could he have a way to send Lonni away? Moreover, Lonni's value lay in being an insider in ISB. Without this identity, he was just an ordinary person who wanted to spend the rest of his life with his wife and children, not even reaching the level of being able to join the Rebels. So he couldn't be kept alive—that was Luthen's way of doing things.
After instructing Kleya to pass on a message, Luthen, who returned to the store to destroy records, encountered Dedra, who had come to arrest him.

The two sticking to their own arguments highlighted the difference in ideas between revolutionary fighters and counter-revolutionary fighters. Luthen firmly believed that the chaos he created would lead to freedom, while Dedra thought that chaos was just chaos because "resistance is absurd."
After a brief exchange of verbal blows, Luthen chose to commit suicide, after all, he couldn't be captured alive.
Because Dedra took unauthorized action to arrest "Axis," Partagaz canceled the ISB meeting, but he received another piece of news that made him more flustered: Lonni was dead.

Judging from Partagaz's reaction, he probably knew about the little tricks of Dedra and Lonni—one collecting intelligence in violation of regulations, the other peeking at intelligence that was collected in violation of regulations. But what's the big deal about that? ISB was originally in the intelligence business. Dedra was proactive and capable, and Lonni was smart and smooth. Both were subordinates he appreciated and valued. Relaxing the rules a bit could also improve their work efficiency and enthusiasm.
But now, Dedra failed to arrest her target, and Lonni suddenly died a violent death. Then the nature of the matter changed, especially since Lonni might have leaked the intelligence about the Death Star. At the very least, he would have to take the blame for negligence.

The most urgent task was to first bring the situation under control, arrest Dedra, who was still complacent, to find out the details of the leak, and by the way, let Hutt, who acted more steadily, take over Dedra's mess.
It was precisely because of seizing this time gap that Kleya had enough opportunity to break through layers of obstacles, sneak into Luthen's intensive care unit, and pull out his tube (saving him was impossible). She gave her mentor and father-like figure a release, and at the same time ensured that the cause they had fought for together did not fail.

Luthen's expression before his death was full of satisfaction and relief. His heart had long been shattered, but he had been living in a fighting posture. Now that his good apprentice and daughter-like figure had come forward, he could finally rest.
Recalling the scene when Luthen and Kleya first met, it was also "leaving no survivors," but the target and the environment had changed completely... It is believed that they would be grateful for these years.
