The episode opens with the daunting challenge of the radical anti-capitalist environmental group, Planet Resistance, led by the activist Henry Wicks. For three weeks, they have occupied the village of Godley Commons in protest against the government's construction of a new "metro ultra line." Despite the government's efforts to clear the surface encampments through a new civil disturbance bill, a handful of determined protesters remain, entrenched in tunnels along the proposed train line's path.

As heavy rains batter the country, making the situation increasingly precarious, Home Secretary Joseph Obasi and Defense Secretary Victoria Dalton are eager to deploy the army to remove the protesters. However, Police Commissioner Neil Millar's reluctance and the treacherous weather conditions complicate matters.

Robert's trusted Chief of Staff, Anna Marshall, returns to duty after surviving a car bombing. Her recovery and eagerness to get back into the thick of things provide a much-needed boost to the Prime Minister's team. Yet, on the home front, Robert's marriage to Rachel is strained to the breaking point. Counseling sessions are interrupted by the relentless demands of his role, and Rachel threatens divorce if he fails to prioritize their relationship.

The tension escalates when their daughter Ellie returns home, ostensibly after breaking up with her Chilean boyfriend. She expresses a desire to become an activist for women's rights, but her true intentions are far more radical. Ellie has been in clandestine contact with Polly Wright, a leader of Planet Resistance, and they devise a plan to free Ellie from her security detail. In a daring escape, Ellie joins the ranks of the protesters in Godley Commons.

Meanwhile, the opposition environment secretary, Francine Bridge, who is sympathetic to Planet Resistance, maintains contact with Henry Wicks. Her presence at a protest camp draws media attention, raising questions about the government's commitment to environmental concerns.

As the government prepares to open a new renewable energy facility, it relies on investment from a Middle Eastern government, represented by Crown Prince Samir. However, his sister Yadira's unexpected attendance at a horse race, where she advocates for women's and workers' rights, adds another layer of complexity to the diplomatic relations.

The episode reaches a climax as Planet Resistance plans a high-profile protest during the government's eviction sweep of their camp. Anna suggests moving the eviction forward to catch the protesters off guard, but the heavy rains and the premature call for supporters to gather complicate the government's plans.

In a shocking turn of events, Ellie, now deep in the tunnels of Godley Commons, records a video message to the world before being left alone with minimal supplies. As the government's eviction operation begins, the ground beneath Godley Commons starts to collapse, cutting off all communication with the area.

The episode ends on a cliffhanger, with the audience left in suspense about the fate of Ellie, the protesters, and the village of Godley Commons. The collapse threatens not only the lives of those in the tunnels but also the stability of Robert Sutherland's government as it grapples with the consequences of its actions.

COBRA Season 3 Episode 1 is a powerful return to form for the series, offering a tense and intricate narrative that weaves personal drama with political intrigue. The episode sets the stage for a season that promises to be as explosive and thought-provoking as its predecessors.
