While Barbara's father, George, is sympathetic, her aunt, Marie, is accusatory. Clive, on the other hand, faces no consequences for his actions. The rest of the sitcom team is furious at him for ruining the show. In a heated confrontation, Clive reveals secrets about Bill's homosexuality, Tony's confusion about his sexuality, and Dennis's wife's affair with her producer.

Barbara's mother has reached out to her agent, but Brian decides to ignore the letter. However, Patsy, Brian's wife and assistant, secretly keeps it.

The sitcom team attempts to continue the show without Barbara. Clive offers a forced apology, which is reluctantly accepted. Ted assigns a new plot involving an Indian character, but Dennis faces further humiliation when Ted insists on hiring the popular white comedian Spike Milligan for the role.

Dennis's personal life takes a hit as well. He attends a cocktail party with his wife's producer and lover and confronts her about her infidelity. She accuses him of cowardice and lack of passion.

Barbara, seeking freedom, joins Bill and Tony at an underground gay club. She witnesses Bill with another man and learns about Tony's bisexuality.

After her taste of freedom, Barbara returns to Blackpool in disguise. She is welcomed by her father but once again faces accusations from her aunt.

Back in London, Brian meets with Clive. A reporter threatens to publish photos of Clive with the show's costumer unless they get a positive story. Clive decides to propose to Barbara, believing it will not only win her back but also get her reinstated on the show.
