The episode opens with Bella still grappling with the decision of whether to
accept Cecil's request for a divorce. The scandal of such a public separation
could tarnish her reputation as the proprietor of Hotel Portofino. Cecil is
growing impatient, pressuring her to make a swift decision. Marco, Bella's
lover, also believes that divorce would be beneficial for her, expressing his
support during their mushroom-gathering outing in the forest.

Unbeknownst to Marco, Danioni is closely watching his every move. As a condition for continuing to practice as an architect, Danioni demands that Marco relinquish his license and cease working for Bella. This threat, however, has the opposite effect on Marco. Driven by a desire to protect Bella from Danioni and the potential scandal, he proposes to her that night. He believes that marriage would shield her from harm and provide her with the security she needs. However, Bella is hesitant about committing to marriage, leaving Marco feeling offended and hurt.
Bella is also facing pressure from her father, George. He is transferring his textile business to her sister, Amelia, and insists that Bella sign a document agreeing not to interfere with the succession. While Bella isn't opposed to Amelia taking over, she is concerned about her sister's lack of business experience. She takes offense to George's implication that the hotel is merely a "rich woman's plaything" and not a legitimate business.
Amidst the family drama, Bella finds solace in her friendship with the movie star Claudine Pascal. Claudine arrives at the hotel to launch her new perfume and invites Bella for a night out. They indulge in a whirlwind of fun, including a drive in Claudine's new convertible and a night of dancing and drinking. Claudine's single status prompts Bella to reflect on her own relationship with Marco. She confesses to Marco that she wants to be with him but needs time to resolve her issues with Cecil.
When Bella and Claudine return to the hotel late at night, they find Cecil waiting up for them. Claudine doesn't mince words, lashing out at Cecil for his treatment of Bella. In contrast, she finds a kindred spirit in Amelia, bonding over their shared love of fashion. Amelia questions Bella's refusal to sign the business succession document, and Bella eventually agrees to do so, offering to provide her sister with guidance and support.
Bella's daughter, Alice, faces her own challenges when she receives an invitation to lunch from a contessa. With limited Italian language skills, Alice needs her mother's help, but Bella is too preoccupied to assist. Amelia also declines, leaving Alice to attend the lunch alone. To her surprise, the contessa speaks English and reveals that she is Albani's sister, not his lover as Alice had feared. The contessa's intentions are to humiliate Alice and make her suffer.
When Albani arrives, he invites Alice to visit his estate and its horses. As they spend time together, they almost share a kiss, but Albani pulls away. He explains that his recent experiences have made him realize that he and Alice are not compatible. He prefers a simpler life, and Alice's lifestyle is anything but simple.
Constance's life is also filled with complexities. She is dating Vito but has been hiding the fact that she has a son. Feeling guilty about her deception, she tries to end the date, but Vito's kindness towards a young boy changes her mind. She decides to reveal her secret to him, fearing the worst. However, to her surprise, Vito is accepting and tells her that he still wants to be with her.
Betty, Constance's friend, is preparing to meet her fiancé Salvatore's mother at a party. Knowing that food is a way to express her love, Betty bakes Salvatore's favorite cakes, a fusion of English and Italian flavors. Despite Salvatore's initial concern about going against his mother's wishes, Betty's cakes win her over, and she offers high praise.
As the party progresses, Constance's heart is shattered when she sees two familiar faces arrive: Billy, Betty's son, and Lucian, Constance's former lover. The presence of these two men from her past forces her to confront her hidden secrets and the pain they have caused.
Back at the hotel, George publicly humiliates Bella, demanding that she sign the business succession document. In a moment of defiance, Bella not only signs the document but also announces her intention to divorce Cecil. George is furious, threatening to make her life miserable. However, Bella is determined to take control of her own destiny and break free from the constraints of her family and marriage.
