The two leaders believe that the rings should be used immediately to restore the life-giving power of the tree of life, which is crucial to the Elves' survival in Middle-earth.

One of these masked figures, a sinister rider, arrives at Caras Gaer, a fortress in Western Rhun. Here, we are introduced to a dark wizard who bears an eerie resemblance to Saruman. Surrounded by a swarm of moths, this wizard is engaged in a dark ritual, which summons the Mystic known as the Dweller. The Dweller informs the wizard of Sauron's new guise as Halbrand and the Stranger's presence in the desert with the Harfoots. The dark wizard, recognizing the threat the Stranger poses if he learns to control his powers, sends his acolytes after him.
The pursuit is relentless, with the Harfoots and the Stranger barely evading capture by camouflaging themselves in the desert landscape. However, their situation becomes increasingly dire when the Stranger, exhausted from pulling the Harfoots through the harsh environment, collapses. A brief moment of hope arises when Poppy finds a well, but drawing water from it triggers a bell that alerts the pursuing trackers to their location.
In a dramatic turn of events, the Stranger discovers a magical staff that he has seen in his dreams. Using the staff, he conjures a powerful hurricane to fend off the trackers. While he manages to inflict some damage, the violent winds also toss the Harfoots aside, and to make matters worse, the staff disintegrates, leaving the Stranger powerless once more. This loss adds a new layer of vulnerability to the group's already precarious situation.
Back in Eregion, the tension between Sauron (still posing as Halbrand) and Celebrimbor reaches a critical point. Celebrimbor, recalling Galadriel's warnings, is initially hesitant to allow Halbrand into his quarters. However, Sauron, ever the master manipulator, exploits the situation by revealing the injuries inflicted upon him by Adar. When Celebrimbor remains unconvinced, Sauron resorts to more subtle tactics, subtly influencing the weather to rain, which eventually prompts Celebrimbor to let him in.
Once inside, Sauron begins to weave his web of lies, telling Celebrimbor that the rings they created have revived the tree in Lindon. This revelation, coupled with the absence of messengers who were supposed to inform Celebrimbor, plants seeds of doubt in the craftsman’s mind. Sauron seizes this opportunity to drive a wedge between Celebrimbor and the rest of the Elves, suggesting that his contributions are unappreciated by High King Gil-galad.
