The Governor fed Penny, his daughter who had turned into a walker. Penny was usually confined by the Governor in a room. As the Governor put a hood on Penny, he noticed Michonne standing downstairs, looking into the room.
Michonne went to a playground and found several walkers locked in a steel cage. She released the walkers, and they stepped out of the cage. Michonne gripped her machete and skillfully killed the walkers with practiced movements.
The Governor’s men arrived at the playground and witnessed Michonne killing the walkers. She was then taken to the Governor’s office, where he spoke to her alone. After retrieving her confiscated machete, Michonne suddenly raised it and pressed the blade against the Governor’s chin. The Governor remained calm and did not turn against her. Michonne withdrew her machete and turned to leave.
Rick was overwhelmed with grief over the death of his wife, Lori. Maggie and Daryl rode motorcycles out of the prison to search for baby formula. Rick, in a heavy mood, went into the prison to hunt walkers, while Hershel and the others took care of the newly born baby.
Michonne was determined to leave the sanctuary. Andrea tried to persuade her to stay but failed, so she accompanied Michonne to the sanctuary’s entrance. Merle opened the gate to let Michonne go. Michonne urged Andrea to leave with her, but Andrea insisted on staying in the sanctuary. Reluctantly, Michonne picked up her backpack and walked out through the entrance.
Rick was slaughtering walkers inside the prison when Glenn followed him and found him. Rick’s face was covered in blood, and he said nothing. Glenn tried to persuade Rick to rejoin the group, but Rick suddenly flew into a rage and raised his hand to press against Glenn’s neck. Terrified, Glenn fell silent and watched as Rick walked deeper into the prison.
Daryl and Maggie rode their motorcycles to the outside of a building. They got off the motorcycles and went inside to search for food.
As night fell, the Governor took Andrea to the playground to watch a live fight. Merle and several others fought among a group of walkers tied up with chains. All the residents stood outside the arena to watch the fight. Andrea was shocked and angry, thinking the fight was grotesque.
Rick hunted walkers all the way to the spot where Lori had died. There was a pool of blood on the ground, but Lori’s body was gone. Following the trail of blood, Rick found a walker with a greatly distended stomach—clear that it had just eaten. After killing the walker, Rick suddenly heard a shrill telephone ringtone coming from nearby.
A landline phone was placed not far from Rick. He left the dead walker behind and answered the call.
