The fifth episode of Tulsa King, titled "Token Joe," delves into Dwight
Manfredi's fraught family reunion while shedding light on the depths of
corruption plaguing Tulsa.

The episode opens with Dwight's return to New York for his brother's funeral. A bittersweet reunion with his sister, Joanne, is overshadowed by the strained relationship with his daughter, Tina. Despite initial attempts to reconnect, their conversation reveals the festering wounds of his long absence. Tina expresses resentment regarding his past neglect and the burden it placed on her. A glimmer of hope emerges when she reveals that Nico, a potentially dangerous associate of Pete's, used to visit them in Dwight's absence.
Driven by a thirst for justice, Dwight confronts Pete in the hospital. Their tense exchange exposes Pete's betrayal, as Dwight learns he failed to protect his family during his imprisonment. Fueled by rage and a desire to protect his daughter, Dwight seeks revenge on Nico. This brutal act highlights the darkness still lurking within Dwight, despite his efforts to carve a new path in Tulsa.
Meanwhile, back in Oklahoma, a different kind of darkness unfolds. The Black Macadam biker gang, irritated by Dwight's incursion into their nitrous oxide sales territory, colludes with corrupt police officers. This collaboration paints a grim picture of a town where law enforcement is used as a tool for criminal gain.
Tyson, Dwight's loyal right-hand man, becomes a pawn in this corrupt game. He's pulled over by the compromised cops, searched illegally, and ultimately thrown in jail. Black Macadam targets Bodhi as well, extracting information about Dwight's operation under the threat of violence. However, Bodhi's lack of loyalty to Dwight allows him to weasel out of the situation.
The episode concludes with Bodhi returning to Bred 2 Buck, shaken but unharmed. While the immediate threat is seemingly neutralized, the episode leaves a lingering sense of unease. The audience is left wondering about the extent of Black Macadam's influence and the potential consequences for Dwight's fledgling empire.
"Token Joe" masterfully balances emotional complexity with a growing sense of danger. Dwight's journey is fraught with personal demons and external threats. The episode serves as a turning point, highlighting the harsh realities of the world Dwight finds himself in and the challenges that lie ahead.
