Arcane: League of Legends Season 2, Episode 3: Finally Got the Name Right - Noxus and Black Rose

In the thrilling third episode of Arcane's second season, "Finally Got the Name Right," the narrative threads of Piltover and Zaun tighten into a knot of conflict and revelation. Caitlyn's (Katie Leung) inner turmoil escalates, and a mysterious new force emerges, casting a sinister shadow over the proceedings.

The episode begins with a flashback to Caitlyn at the Kiramman archive device, her mother's voice guiding her through the plans for Zaun's ventilation system. This system, designed to vent toxic fumes from Piltover factories into the Fissures, becomes the key to Caitlyn's audacious plan to flush out Jinx (Ella Purnell). Her strike team infiltrates Zaun, using the system against Jinx, flooding areas with The Grey and causing panic in the Undercity.

The strike team's bold move into Zaun is met with a macabre welcome. They find themselves in a cavernous space, where Heenot (Mick Wingert) is bound to a propeller blade. As they free him, they are greeted by a chilling sight: mutilated doll effigies of themselves hanging from the ceiling. This sets the stage for a game of cat and mouse with Jinx, who is revealed to be planning something sinister in the pipeworks.

On her battleship, Ambessa (Ellen Thomas) hosts Amara (Salli Saffioti), who arrives with dark intentions. Amara, a member of the Black Rose, uses her magic to restrain Ambessa and her guard, revealing a black rose—a symbol of her allegiance. The confrontation ends with Ambessa killing Amara, but not before learning of the Black Rose's true intentions in Piltover.

In the pipeworks, Vi (Hailee Steinfeld) and Caitlyn share a tender moment, their kiss a brief respite from the chaos. However, their unity is short-lived as Caitlyn's determination to capture Jinx at any cost creates a rift between them. When Caitlyn accuses Vi of being no different from Jinx, it's a moment of heart-wrenching truth and betrayal.

Salo (Josh Keaton) indulges in Shimmer, oblivious to the machinations around him. Ambessa visits him, scolding his indulgence and revealing a plan to make him the city's authority while she pulls the strings. This plot is further complicated by the involvement of Amara and the Black Rose.

Jayce (Kevin Alejandro), Ekko (Reed Shannon), and Heimerdinger (Mick Wingert) venture into the HexGates' failsafe chamber, discovering signs of Arcane contamination. As they are trapped with a ball of Arcane energy, Jayce's hammer reacts violently, foreshadowing the wild power of the Arcane.

Vi and Caitlyn find a shrine, where Jinx has painted murals of her past with Vi and Vander. The confrontation between Vi and Jinx is intense, with Caitlyn attempting to take a shot at Jinx. However, Jinx's taunts and the appearance of Isha (a child caught in the crossfire) complicate the situation, leading to a climactic explosion orchestrated by Sevika.

The explosion in the shrine releases a blast of air that carries Jinx's signature powder through Piltover, causing destruction and panic. In the aftermath, Mel and Elora prepare to act, but Elora is suddenly attacked by the Black Rose, and Mel is captured by the sinister magic. In Piltover, Ambessa proposes martial law and nominates Caitlyn as the leader to quell the threat. Caitlyn, torn between her duty and her personal vendetta against Jinx, is faced with a difficult choice.

The episode ends with a stinger scene showing Singed (Brett Tucker) conducting dark experiments, hinting at the monstrous creations to come. "Finally Got the Name Right" is a masterclass in storytelling, weaving personal drama with grand-scale conflict. The episode expertly balances action, character development, and world-building, leaving viewers on the edge of their seats for what's to come in Arcane's second season.
