Outer Banks Season 4 Finale: The Blue Crown - A Tale of Loss and Vengeance

In the heart-pounding finale of Outer Banks' fourth season, the Pogues' quest for the Blue Crown reaches its climax, culminating in a series of shocking twists and a finale that leaves fans reeling. As the dust settles on the longest episode in the show's history, we're left with a bittersweet taste of victory and the sting of loss.

The episode picks up after the Pogues, along with Rafe, are reunited on the beach, their boat washed ashore after a near-fatal storm. With JJ (Rudy Pankow) and Sarah (Madelyn Cline) back in the fold, the group sets off through the desert towards Essaouira, their singular goal to locate Groff (J. Anthony Crane) and retrieve the scroll that will lead them to the Blue Crown.

Upon arriving in the city, the Pogues create a stir at the local market, stealing apples for Sarah who's feeling nauseous, leading to a police chase. In the chaos, Rafe gets separated from the group, but not before Cleo (Carlacia Grant) steals them some disguises to evade the authorities. John B (Chase Stokes) and Sarah sneak onto Groff's boat to search for the scroll, but find only photos of it. They manage to grab a lens and escape when a mercenary nearly catches them, thanks to their quick thinking.

Meanwhile, Rafe uses the money he stole from the police to buy supplies, including a phone to call Sofia and track down Groff's hotel. He arrives just in time to save Groff from the Pogues, and together they flee with the scroll. However, Rafe's greed gets the better of him, and he pushes Groff into a well, leaving him for dead with the scroll in his possession.

The Pogues' map leads them to the same well, where they find Groff. Despite his pleas, JJ leaves him behind, a decision that seals Groff's fate as the world's worst father. The Pogues make their way to Agapenta, where Rafe is confronted by Dalia (Pollyanna McIntosh) and her mercenaries. A fierce battle ensues, with Sarah creating a distraction that allows Rafe to escape. However, the mercenaries close in, and the group is forced to split up.

As Pope (Jonathan Daviss) and Cleo hold off the mercenaries, Rafe and Sarah reconcile, with Sarah revealing the truth about their father's death. The siblings share a heartfelt moment before the mercenaries interrupt. John B, Sarah, and Rafe search for the crown, while the rest of the group buys time. They discover an Arabic phrase on the map, which translates to a clue that leads them to the ruins. As a sandstorm approaches, they race against time to find the Blue Crown.

JJ scales the statue in the ruins and retrieves the Blue Crown, but Dalia is ready to shoot him. Kiara (Madison Bailey) and JJ escape, but are separated in the chaos. Kiara is confronted by Groff, who has clawed his way out of the well. Groff demands the crown, and in a tragic turn, stabs JJ after taking it, leaving him to die.

JJ dies in Kiara's arms, and the Pogues lay him to rest in Agapenta. The episode ends with a montage memorializing JJ, a friend and Pogue who kept the group together. The final scene shows the Pogues around a fire, processing their loss, as Rafe reveals Groff's plan to head to Lisbon. Kiara vows to get revenge, setting the stage for the final season.

The finale of Outer Banks' fourth season is a rollercoaster of emotions, from the high-stakes chase for the Blue Crown to the devastating loss of one of their own. The Pogues' journey is far from over, as they prepare to avenge their fallen friend and bring Groff to justice. With the Blue Crown in play and the stakes higher than ever, the final season promises to be a thrilling and unforgettable conclusion to the Outer Banks saga.
