In the penultimate episode of The Brothers Sun's debut season, titled "Gymkata,"
the narrative takes a dramatic turn as the Sun family's internal dynamics and
their struggle for power within the triad world are pushed to the forefront. The
episode opens with Eileen's return to Los Angeles, where she informs the family
that she has warned the other triads, known as the ghosts, about the imminent
threat from the Boxers. This warning does not go unheeded, as the ghosts
retaliate by killing the attacking Boxers, setting the stage for a power shift
that Eileen hopes to capitalize on.

Eileen's ambition to become the Dragon Head, the leader of all triads, is met with mixed reactions within her own family. Charles, ever the supportive son, stands by his mother's side, adding fuel to her aspirations. However, the question of how the Boxers knew about the remaining ghosts looms large, causing Bruce to worry about the loyalty and trust within their ranks.
The family's internal strife is further complicated by the arrival of TK, who expresses his desire to join the Jade family and become a gangster. Bruce, in a bid to protect him from the violence and danger, insults TK to dissuade him from joining. Meanwhile, Eileen and Charles are interrupted in their planning by the unexpected visit of Charles's friends from Taiwan, including the revelation that Eileen's husband, Big Sun, has been feigning a coma. Big Sun's return brings with it a wave of surprises, including a dream car for Bruce, and a revelation that Xing was sent to LA to keep an eye on the family.
As the FBI, led by Alexis, gets wind of the triad heads' meeting in LA, they ramp up their surveillance on Charles. This adds another layer of tension to the already volatile situation. Big Sun confronts Eileen, asserting that it is Charles, not her, who should run for the Dragon Head. Charles, torn between his father's command and his own desires, finds himself at a crossroads.
Feeling marginalized and ignored by Eileen and Charles, Bruce takes a drastic step, meeting with Grace to inform her about the triads' meeting. He expresses his deep desire to remove his family from the chaos of the triad world. Initially skeptical, Grace eventually agrees to attack the triads during the meeting, setting in motion a series of events that will have far-reaching consequences.
The day of the meeting arrives, and Charles is ready to take on the role of the Dragon Head, despite Eileen and Bruce being excluded from the proceedings. Bruce, fearful and desperate, calls upon June for help. In a shocking twist, Bruce confesses to June that Grace is the leader of the Boxers and reveals his own actions. June, motivated by her desire for revenge against Grace for killing May and her loyalty to the Jade family, agrees to help.
As the FBI closes in on the meeting's location, a Boxer member plants a bomb in a dessert cart, which Bruce manages to remove just in time, preventing a disaster. The bomb detonates in front of the FBI, causing chaos as both the FBI and Boxer members storm the meeting. In the midst of the chaos, Bruce and Eileen escape with the help of June and TK. June and Grace engage in a duel, ending with June's victory and Grace's death. Grace accepts her fate, content that the triads are now dead.
In the episode's climax, Charles is given the opportunity to embrace his violent alter ego, Chairleg Sun, as he and Big Sun escape the bloodbath. The FBI, with Alexis at the helm, counts the bodies and witnesses the carnage. Alexis's concern for Charles is evident, despite her professional detachment. Big Sun, humiliated and feeling betrayed, wants to punish Eileen. Charles refuses to kill his mother, leading Big Sun to demand that Charles kill Bruce instead, a shocking ultimatum that leaves Charles reeling.
"Gymkata" is a gripping installment of The Brothers Sun that sees the Sun family at the center of a power struggle, with loyalties tested, secrets revealed, and the stakes higher than ever. The episode masterfully weaves together action, emotion, and suspense, leaving viewers on the edge of their seats and eager for the next chapter in the Sun family's saga.
