How Does Khet Work?

Khet is an ancient Egyptian board game that challenges players to strategically manipulate the game board in order to capture their opponent's pieces. The game is played on a rectangular board divided into squares, with each player controlling a set of differently colored pieces. The objective is to use these pieces to form continuous lines of four or more squares in a row, either horizontally or diagonally, capturing any opponent's pieces that fall within these lines.

At the start of the game, the board is empty, and players take turns placing their pieces onto the board. Once all pieces have been placed, the game enters its main phase, where players alternate turns moving their pieces. Each piece can be moved one square in any direction, either horizontally, vertically, or diagonally. However, pieces cannot move over or jump over other pieces, and they must always remain connected to at least one other piece of the same color.

The strategy of Khet lies in carefully choosing which pieces to move and where to move them. Players must not only try to form lines of four or more squares to capture their opponent's pieces, but also to prevent their opponent from doing the same. This often involves blocking potential lines or creating traps for the opponent's pieces.

The game continues until one player has captured all of their opponent's pieces or until the board is filled and no more moves can be made. The player with the most captured pieces at the end of the game is declared the winner.
