In "What If…?" Season 2, Episode 6, titled "What If... Kahhori Reshaped the World?", we are transported to a reality where the Tesseract's fate takes a divergent path, impacting the lives of a Mohawk tribe in pre-Colonial America. The episode opens with The Watcher reflecting on an alternate version of Asgard's fall in Ragnarok, where the Tesseract is flung across space and time, ultimately landing in the Forbidden Lake of a Mohawk tribe.
The story focuses on Kahhori, a young Mohawk woman living in the 15th century. Along with her brother Wahta, she ventures into the forbidden forest to the Forbidden Lake, a place shrouded in mystery and cautionary tales. When Spanish Conquistadors, led by their quest for the Fountain of Youth, attack Kahhori's village, the siblings are forced to flee. In a desperate escape, they tumble into the Forbidden Lake, where Kahhori is pulled into a portal created by the Tesseract, which has imbued the lake with its enigmatic properties.
Awakening in a new world, Kahhori meets Atahraks and other Mohawks who have been transported to this place, dubbed the Sky World. This realm has granted its inhabitants powers and even immortality at the cost of never returning home. Kahhori quickly adapts to her new abilities, surpassing even the most seasoned tribespeople in the Sky World.
Back on Earth, the Conquistadors, having destroyed Kahhori's village and captured its people, including Wahta, discover the Forbidden Lake. Soldiers who step into the lake are sucked into the same portal, leading the survivors to flee in terror, believing the lake to be cursed.
The transported soldiers awaken in the Sky World, where they plan an attack on the tribe celebrating their successful hunt, thanks to Kahhori. Kahhori manages to stop the Spaniards, reminding her of the danger her tribe still faces. She pulls the portal from the sky to the ground, enabling her return home. Despite the hesitation of the other Mohawks to leave their paradise, Kahhori is determined to help her people.
Kahhori's return coincides with the Spanish loading their prisoners onto ships. She defeats most of the soldiers but is overwhelmed by a cannon barrage. As she is about to be overwhelmed, the Sky World tribe arrives, turning the tide of the battle and freeing Kahhori's tribe.
In the aftermath, Queen Isabella of Spain is confronted by Kahhori and her tribe after multiple failed Spanish attempts to claim the Americas. Forced to make peace, a new magical entity emerges from a portal, introducing themselves to Kahhori and setting the stage for further adventures.
"What If... Kahhori Reshaped the World?" is a poignant exploration of power, responsibility, and the sacrifices one is willing to make for the greater good. It is a story that resonates with the themes of displacement and the struggle against colonialism, wrapped in the fantastical elements of the Marvel Multiverse.
