In Jimmy's memory, Chuck had never been a man who never lied. When Chuck first developed his "electromagnetic hypersensitivity," Rebecca—who was on a concert tour abroad—knew nothing about it. To hide his condition, Chuck restored all the electrical appliances in his house to their original state but didn’t plug them in. Before Jimmy brought Rebecca over, the house was filled with lit candles. A billing mistake from the power company accidentally turned this into a romantic lie of a candlelit dinner. After breaking up with Chuck amicably, Rebecca had been busy with her tours and barely had a fixed residence. The romantic atmosphere made her want to get back together with Chuck and settle down—and this was exactly what Chuck wanted. But man proposes, God disposes. Rebecca’s phone rang; it was the band conductor wanting to discuss details of their next performance. As Rebecca talked on the phone, she helped tidy up, walking around the house. Chuck felt as if his whole body was being eroded by radiation. Finally, he couldn’t take it anymore—he snatched the phone and smashed it on the ground. Though he cleverly explained his bizarre behavior by claiming that talking on the phone without considering others was rude, his efforts to reconcile with Rebecca were all in vain. Chuck and Rebecca might have forgotten this incident, but Jimmy still remembered. It might well be the last straw that would break Chuck.

Jimmy and Kim did a lot of preparatory work. Through Mike Ehrmantraut’s introduction, Jimmy found a vet to hire a skilled thief-like person. Meanwhile, Kim was preparing an escape route for herself. Through relentless efforts, she completed the formal application for Mesa Verde Bank ahead of schedule and passed the review smoothly. While receiving praise from Kevin, she confessed the dispute between Chuck and Jimmy and its cause. After a brief discussion, Kevin and Paige decided that as long as it didn’t affect Mesa Verde Bank, the McGill brothers’ personal issues wouldn’t prevent Kim from continuing to provide services to the bank. With this major client’s commitment, Kim felt much more at ease and could go all out to take on Chuck.

The day of the bar association hearing arrived. After receiving Jimmy’s letter of remorse, the association would discuss whether to retain Jimmy’s law license. To be honest, Howard didn’t want things to escalate this far. What he cared about was the firm’s reputation—it would be embarrassing if others found out that the leading lawyer of Hamlin, Hamlin & McGill suffered from a strange illness and that documents supposed to be kept at the firm had been tampered with at his home. But since Chuck insisted on revoking Jimmy’s license, Howard had no choice but to cooperate.

The hearing began. Ali from the bar association asked the three committee members on the stage to revoke Jimmy’s law license based on his actions. In response, Kim presented her defense and requested that Jimmy’s license be retained. Thus, a verbal battle began. Ali first called Howard to testify and recount what had happened. Jimmy had already pleaded guilty to this part, and Kim had no objection except to a few minor details. When it was Kim’s turn to question, she started with the fact that Jimmy had been rejected by Hamlin, Hamlin & McGill. Howard gave a cunning explanation: it was to avoid nepotism. However, Howard himself had taken over the firm from his father, making this reason seem rather hypocritical. Kim proved that Chuck had secretly hindered Jimmy’s career—scoring a victory in the first round. But when she was about to continue explaining Chuck’s mental state, the committee members on the stage stopped her, stating that Chuck’s mental health was irrelevant to the case.

Next, Ali proposed playing the recording. Kim pretended to object, cooperating with the "performance" they had planned to stage after the hearing. What worried Jimmy wasn’t the recording, but Rebecca, who hadn’t arrived yet due to a delayed flight. He tried his best to stall for time, but what had to come eventually came. After the recording was played, Chuck was called to testify. Everyone present handed over their electronic devices to the staff, and the fluorescent lights were turned off before Chuck took his seat in the witness stand. Chuck talked about his motive for making the recording, but he also had to explain why he had rambled in the recording. He admitted that he had exaggerated his symptoms to get his brother to tell the truth—it was just an act, and he had been in a clear state of mind at that time. Then, under Ali’s questioning, Chuck described his condition to prove that "electromagnetic hypersensitivity" was just an unrecognized medical condition, not a mental issue. Later, Chuck said a few words to Jimmy. These words, which he had polished and practiced repeatedly, seemed on the surface to be the regret of an older brother disappointed that his younger brother was incorrigible. In reality, they were deadly arrows aimed at Jimmy, creating the impression in the committee members’ minds that Jimmy was a hopeless case.

Jimmy was just about to stall for more time when Francesca finally arrived with Rebecca. Upon seeing Rebecca, Chuck assumed Jimmy wanted to call her as a witness. But that wasn’t the case—Jimmy had only asked her to look after Chuck. Even so, Rebecca’s presence put great pressure on Chuck; he didn’t want her to see his vulnerable side. And this was exactly the result Jimmy wanted.

It was Jimmy himself who would question Chuck. He started with Chuck’s motive for making the recording: to get evidence of Jimmy’s guilt, Chuck had endured the pain caused by the recorder’s electric current and even covered his house with space blankets to fake a worsening condition. If Chuck could lie to find out the truth, then Jimmy could also lie about tampering with the documents to comfort his brother. This point might have been hard for the committee members to understand, so Jimmy took out photos to show them the state of Chuck’s house. Cut wires, a portable stove for cooking, and oil lamps for lighting—it was hard to imagine that a normal person lived there.

Seeing the committee members’ attitudes begin to shift, Jimmy was about to play his trump card—Rebecca. But Chuck took the initiative first: he admitted his past deception to Rebecca, trying to throw Jimmy off his game. However, Jimmy had no intention of using that old incident to attack Chuck. Instead, he tempted Chuck to talk about why he had refused to tell Rebecca about his illness and what his symptoms were when the illness flared up. Chuck had described his condition to others before, so he didn’t think talking about his symptoms would pose any threat. He clearly stated on the spot that being near electronic devices with batteries or connected to power would cause him severe physical pain. Suddenly, he saw the cunning look in Jimmy’s eyes and immediately guessed that Jimmy must be hiding an electronic device on him—and he said so. Jimmy did have a phone hidden in his suit pocket, but the cunning Chuck didn’t fall for it. He picked up the phone, took off the back cover, and found there was no battery inside at all.

The committee members on the stage were starting to get impatient, and Chuck also thought Jimmy had run out of tricks. But the real show was just beginning. Jimmy told Chuck to feel his own pocket. Puzzled, Chuck put his hand in his pocket; when he took it out, he saw a phone battery in his hand. He was so frightened that his hand trembled, and the battery fell to the ground. It turned out that the thief-like person Jimmy had hired had slipped the battery of Jimmy’s phone into Chuck’s pocket when Chuck arrived at the bar association building. And during the 1 hour and 40 minutes of his testimony, Chuck had shown no signs of discomfort—proving exactly that his illness was a mental issue.

Ali immediately stood up to object, reiterating that Chuck’s mental health was not part of the hearing’s discussion. But Chuck, who had been teased by Jimmy repeatedly, finally erupted. He rudely interrupted Ali, shouting that he wasn’t crazy and even threatening to list all the bad things Jimmy had done since childhood. It wasn’t until he was yelling that the committee members shouldn’t allow someone like Jimmy to be a lawyer that he realized his outburst. No matter how calm he tried to appear afterward, it was useless—everyone now understood just how much he hated Jimmy.
