Varga drove his badly crushed car to a desolate wilderness. With the vehicle running out of gas, he had to stop. Just as he prepared to fight for his life, he spotted an abandoned large water tank, climbed down into it, and hid in the meager remaining water. Shortly after, the two bald brothers—Jeff and his sibling—inspected the area but found nothing amiss. Catching sight of a farmer in the distance, they hurried away, fearing he might have seen something. Varga stayed hidden until nightfall before climbing out. He found an auto repair shop, cleaned himself up thoroughly, and the shop owner even fetched him a set of clothes to change into. Varga called his father, feeling relieved to learn he was safe. His father urged him to stop running and turn himself in to the police, which Varga agreed to. The father and son hung up the phone reluctantly.

Kim Wexler took a file on Jimmy McGill to Judge Erickson at the courthouse, hoping she would take the case and claiming it was a sure win. However, a colleague stopped Kim, informing her that Jimmy was actually Eduardo Salamanca—a major drug lord who had posted $7 million bail and fled to Mexico. Years earlier, Eduardo had hired a man named Varga as his attorney, who later became a prominent associate of Tuco Salamanca. Now, in an attempt to reduce his charges, Varga was acting as the representative lawyer for De Guzmán. According to her colleague, Eduardo was thoroughly corrupt, but Kim protested, noting that her colleague had once spoken ill of Goodman too. The colleague countered that, setting aside other factors, Goodman was at least a lawyer who knew right from wrong.

Upon returning, Kim told Goodman what Judge Erickson had said, feeling agitated and convinced the judge thought they were friends with drug dealers.

Goodman had someone make a universal remote key that could start other people’s cars. The key maker, knowing Goodman and Kim were lawyers, argued that this was illegal. He pointed out that as attorneys, they should have decent incomes and had no reason to resort to such tactics. Goodman explained that it was for the greater good and that everyone would benefit in the end—though the key maker clearly didn’t believe him.

Earlier, when Varga had sought out Mike Ehrmantraut, Mike had warned him that the Salamancas had seen his face. To save his life, Mike had told him to run as far as he could. Yet Varga had returned anyway. Mike got off the vehicle transporting Varga halfway, and Varga was taken to meet the bald brothers and their master—Eduardo’s uncle. Meanwhile, on a nearby hillside, Mike had already set up an ambush.

The bald brothers tried to get Varga to incriminate Gustavo Fring, but Varga refused. Instead, he accused the uncle of conspiring with others to betray Eduardo. Enraged, the uncle lunged at him, but Varga suddenly stood up, grabbed one of the brothers as a human shield. Everyone expected him to seize the chance to escape, but instead, he raised his gun and shot himself. Mike silently put away his weapon. Fearing Varga wasn’t dead, Gustavo ordered his men to fire several more shots at the body.
