Ever since learning from Mike Ehrmantraut that Lalo Salamanca was still alive, Kim Wexler had been unable to sleep through the night. She constantly checked the peephole to see if Lalo was outside and scanned the street below for suspicious figures. Fearing Goodman couldn’t handle the truth, she never told him Lalo was still alive.
Gustavo Fring was equally on edge after finding out Lalo was alive. He kept a handgun tucked in his pant leg, ready to respond to any emergency. Watching the back of his fried chicken restaurant bustling with activity, Gustavo tried to calm his nerves by helping out at the front counter. But he froze when he heard a customer placing an order. Suddenly, a clerk accidentally dropped a tray, and the noise was too much—Gustavo abandoned his front counter duties and walked out of the restaurant.
The elderly residents at the nursing home were frustrated by the long delay in their class-action lawsuit. Some were so angry they wanted to hire individual lawyers instead. Irene couldn’t persuade them to stay the course, but Howard Hamlin managed to calm everyone down with a few words. He promised that if they were patient, they’d receive more money than initially offered and assured them the large corporation wouldn’t empty their pockets.
Howard felt he’d put out a major fire and went to take credit with his superior, Cliff Main. To his shock, Cliff brought up witnessing Howard roughly kick a streetwalker out of his Jaguar. When Howard pressed for details, he realized Cliff had been meeting with Kim that day. Suddenly understanding what had happened, Howard stormed off, leaving Cliff behind, and called to cancel all his appointments for the week.
Goodman’s new office had a long line of people waiting to hire him. When his overweight secretary arrived, she found the spacious-looking office area contained only a desk and a toilet. Refusing to stay, she negotiated a raise with Goodman, who agreed. Her only condition: she got to decide the office’s decor.
That night, Goodman rushed to a case, only to find Howard waiting for him. Knowing Goodman had orchestrated the streetwalker incident, Howard had rented a boxing ring and hired a referee for a fight between them. Goodman, knowing he was no match, tried to leave but found the doors blocked. He had no choice but to step into the ring.
After several rounds, Goodman was knocked to the ground. Enraged, Howard accused him of mistaking his kindness for weakness before walking away. Goodman lay on the floor, gasping for breath, unable to move for a long time.
Kim waited for Goodman on their balcony. His face was bruised, and he had to appear in court the next day—embarrassed and regretting falling for Howard’s trap.
A car pulled into an underground garage. Mike climbed out of the trunk and quickly returned to the underground surveillance room, asking about any unusual activity that day. To relieve stress, Gustavo had been scrubbing dirt with a toothbrush. He then told Mike to notify his men—they were going down.
Another basement door opened. Mike led Gustavo down, and Gustavo stashed the handgun from his pant leg there. The space housed an excavator, looking like an active construction site.
Margaret met Lalo at a bar, and the two hit it off. Margaret told Lalo she’d once had a husband who died saving someone’s life. Those he’d rescued often sent flowers to his grave, but she’d never met them in person. Later, Lalo walked Margaret home. She wanted to invite him in but had to work early the next morning. Lalo said he’d be leaving town the next day, and this might be their last meeting.
The night passed seemingly peacefully. Margaret left for work early the next morning, and Lalo took the opportunity to sneak into her house, moving freely as if he owned the place. He rummaged through her belongings until her dog suddenly started barking—Margaret had come back. The dog barked frantically at the stairs, and Margaret settled it down before quietly heading upstairs. On her bookshelf, Lalo spotted a plastic craft item containing a ruler.
By the time Margaret reached the upper floor, Lalo had escaped through the window—unseen by her.
