Walt and Jesse reached an agreement: Walt would handle the meth cooking from then on, while Jesse took charge of distribution.
Walt started chemotherapy and lied to Skyler that Elliott was covering all the costs. At school, Walt was demonstrating a chemistry experiment to his students when he suddenly left the classroom to vomit in the bathroom. When Skyler asked what he’d been up to that afternoon, Walt lied and said he’d gone for a walk.
During a cook session, Walt was hit by a coughing fit and had to step out of the RV to catch his breath. Jesse realized Walt was undergoing chemotherapy and deduced that Walt was doing all this to provide for his wife and kids after he was gone.
Hank and his colleagues found a mask in the desert and traced it back to the high school where Walt taught. Hank told Walt the mask had been stolen from the school’s supply room.
Hank discovered more items were missing from the supply room and suspected someone at the school was stealing them to cook meth. They arrested Hugo, the school janitor. Walt knew Hugo was innocent but couldn’t speak up.
Jesse gave Walt his share of the profits, but Walt thought the amount was too small. Walt suggested they find a distributor, and Jesse revealed he could contact someone named Tuco.
After testing the product, Tuco agreed to buy it immediately. Jesse insisted on cash on delivery, which enraged Tuco—he beat Jesse severely. When Walt heard about this, he decided to confront Tuco himself.
The next morning, Walt shaved his head completely. He took a bag and went to Tuco’s hideout. He introduced himself first, then demanded $50,000—payment for the meth and compensation for Jesse’s medical bills. Tuco refused, so Walt pulled a crystal from the bag. He told Tuco it wasn’t meth but mercury fulminate. Walt threw the crystal to the ground, and it exploded instantly, leaving everyone in the room dazed. When Walt threatened to throw the entire bag, Tuco agreed to pay up.
