To bypass a police checkpoint, they drove off-road, only to get the car stuck in mud. Forced to continue on foot, Michael drove Tuna away from the group. Meanwhile, Bellick discovered the abandoned car and Tuna's handprint.

Under Pope's persistent questioning, Katie finally revealed that Sara had feelings for Michael. The fugitives evaded a police helicopter and took refuge in a farmhouse, where they found a car but no engine. Haywire "borrowed" a bicycle and continued his flight alone. Bellick, finding the discarded car, was confident they were nearby. The plane waiting for Abruzzi aroused the suspicion of an airport manager, who ordered a background check.

Sucre and the others subdued T-Bag. Attempts to break the handcuffs failed. Abruzzi then took an axe and severed T-Bag's hand, leaving the others in shock. The escape group was now down another member.
"The Company" decided to eliminate the Vice President, who had become a liability, using a special poison. However, the President died unexpectedly from the toxin, while the Vice President survived and seamlessly ascended to the presidency.

With police cars closing in on their location, the five had no choice but to keep running into the vast, dark wilderness.
