Mahone was notified that the Canadian and Mexican borders had received the APBs and would heighten security to prevent the eight fugitives from crossing.
Disguised as a college student, Michael sat on a park bench and discreetly retrieved a large bag of food. After sharing a meal with Sucre, "Tweener," and Abruzzi, the five men went their separate ways. After Lincoln saw a newspaper article about his son LJ's upcoming custody hearing, he insisted on infiltrating the courthouse to rescue him. Michael objected but was overruled and reluctantly agreed to Lincoln's plan.
At Dr. Gudat's clinic, the surgery to reattach T-Bag's hand was finally completed. To prevent the doctor from alerting the police, T-Bag injected him with a sedative, dyed his own hair, stole the doctor's car, and set off for Utah.
Bellick and Warden Pope were removed from the fugitive task force and subjected to an internal investigation regarding the escape. Fired guard Geary testified that Bellick had accepted bribes from Abruzzi, which allowed the inmates involved in the escape to dig the tunnel from the guard station. Warden Pope was docked pay, and Bellick was fired. Outraged by the injustice he perceived, Pope resigned in protest.
Bellick returned home, despondent and suicidal. However, upon learning that the combined reward for capturing Lincoln and the others totaled several hundred thousand dollars, he resolved to track down the men who had cost him his job and humiliated him.
The petty thief, Tuna, tried to buy a bus ticket to Utah. Panicking when he saw his face in the newspaper's wanted section, he fled the station and found a notice on a bulletin board from a girl looking for someone to share a ride to Utah.
Posing as a lawyer, Lincoln called his son LJ to warn him that he would attempt a rescue. Their call, however, was recorded. Mahone questioned LJ about the call but learned nothing. As LJ was being escorted away, Mahone suddenly realized something, squeezed into the elevator, and insisted on personally transporting LJ.
Just as he suspected, Michael and Lincoln appeared through the elevator ceiling, holding Mahone at gunpoint and ordering LJ to take his gun. As they tried to pull LJ up through the hatch, the gun fell. Mahone grabbed LJ, preventing his escape. Seeing the rescue was hopeless, Lincoln reluctantly let his son go. Mahone restrained LJ and alerted security to head to the roof to capture Michael and Lincoln. During their escape, Lincoln was shot in the leg and bled profusely.
