The method worked initially, and Brown captured the first clear scan. But soon after, Liam grew increasingly agitated, and Shawn’s tactic stopped working. In the end, Liam’s father had no choice but to rush into the scan room and interrupt the procedure.
With the MRI unavailable, Dr. Melendez reluctantly proposed an alternative approach—though it carried the risk of accelerating the spread of potential cancer cells in Liam’s body. After careful consideration, Liam’s parents finally decided to sign the surgical consent form, willing to take the risk to save their son. When Brown began making the incision for Liam’s surgery, Liam became so agitated that no one could control him. At that point, Shawn stepped forward to encourage Liam. Liam had always looked up to Shawn as a role model; upon hearing Shawn’s words, he calmed down immediately.
During the procedure, Shawn noticed redness in Liam’s eyes. He suspected Liam only had an immune system issue—nothing life-threatening—and reported this to Dr. Melendez. After Melendez explained the situation, Liam’s parents entrusted him with performing the surgery to remove the affected area, but they refused to let Shawn participate. Melendez tried to convince them of Shawn’s professionalism, but they remained unwilling to accept him. In the end, it was Liam’s pleading that persuaded his parents to agree. Though new affected areas were discovered during the surgery, it was successfully completed in the end. Liam’s parents hugged Shawn gratefully.
After an investigation, Jared found Glenn hiding in the hospital’s basement storage room. Through their conversation, Jared learned that Glenn had no desire to undergo surgery. Unwilling to leave Glenn alone in the basement, Jared stayed with him and shared stories of his own childhood. Eventually, Glenn was moved by Jared’s kindness and agreed to return to his ward. On the eve of the surgery, Glenn, overcome with fear, tried to jump off a building to end his life—but Jared managed to save him just in time.
After all these events, Jared came to realize that Glenn might have been right all along. He ultimately respected Glenn’s decision, and Glenn passed away peacefully. Later, Brown and Jared crossed paths in the staff locker room. They decided to open up to each other, sharing their burdens to relieve the accumulated stress.
