Shane, Rick's colleague, had already fallen in love with Lori. Unaware that Rick was still alive, Lori accepted Shane's advances. One day, Shane quietly followed Lori out of the camp into a forest. Overcome by passion, the two had sex there.
Meanwhile, Rick was trapped in a tank, surrounded by a horde of walkers. A mysterious man contacted him via radio and guided him to escape the tank. The man was hiding in an alleyway to meet Rick, and he led Rick to climb to a high place, successfully evading the pursuing walkers.
The mysterious man, an Asian, introduced himself as Glenn. Under Glenn's guidance, Rick navigated through the rooftops and finally arrived at a shopping mall. Glenn's companions were hiding inside the mall. Soon, the group noticed that a large number of walkers had gathered at the mall's glass entrance, and the glass was on the verge of breaking— the situation was extremely urgent, leaving no time for delay. The group immediately rushed to the rooftop to find a way to escape.
On the rooftop, Merle, a white man with an arrogant attitude, got into a conflict with T-Dog, a Black man. Glenn and the others were so afraid of Merle that no one dared to speak up. Merle, growing more complacent, even tried to assert himself as the leader. Seizing the opportunity when Merle was off guard, Rick stepped forward and subdued him, then handcuffed Merle to a concrete pipe.
With the walkers at the mall entrance still posing an immediate threat of breaking in, Rick and Glenn decided to go out to find a vehicle for escape. To move through the streets swarming with walkers safely, they had to cover their bodies with a large amount of blood. They coated themselves with blood from a corpse and then ventured out onto the street.
Walkers could only rely on their sense of smell and couldn't distinguish between living humans and corpses. Rick and Glenn moved cautiously on the street, and most of the walkers failed to detect the presence of the two living people. Andrea and a few others stood on the rooftop, watching Rick and Glenn's every move on the street.
Back at the camp, T-Dog managed to get in touch with the others using a walkie-talkie. Shane, who was in charge of the camp, refused to send anyone into the city to help after receiving T-Dog's message. He argued that sending people into the city would likely result in more casualties, and he was even willing to leave T-Dog and the others stranded rather than risk losing more people.
Amy, Andrea's younger sister, was extremely anxious when she learned that her sister was trapped in the city. She begged Shane to send a rescue team, but Shane remained firm in his decision and refused to give in.
Suddenly, a heavy rainstorm hit. The rain washed away the blood on Rick and Glenn's bodies. Gradually, many walkers caught the scent of living humans and began to chase them. Rick and Glenn ran as fast as they could and finally managed to escape to the other side of a barbed wire fence, with a large group of walkers swarming behind them but blocked by the fence. Seizing the chance, Rick and Glenn each picked a car and drove back along the original route to rescue their companions.
