Dr. Jenner opened the door and let the group into the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Rick gripped his weapon tightly, eyeing Dr. Jenner suspiciously. Dr. Jenner took the initiative to put down his own weapon to show goodwill to Rick. Reminded by Dr. Jenner, Rick turned around and helped his companions close the door.
Dr. Jenner had everyone take a blood test. After completing the tests, everyone took a comfortable bath, sitting in their respective bathrooms and savoring the rare moment of peace. Since Amy’s death, Dale had been closely watching Andrea’s movements. After her bath, Andrea drank some alcohol and felt nauseous, vomiting shortly after. Dale helped Andrea lean against the wall, and Andrea was disheartened by the loss of her sister.
After her bath, Lori wore a long shirt and bare thighs, looking incredibly attractive. Shane found Lori and explained what had happened when Rick was hospitalized—back then, Shane had found that Rick’s heartbeat had stopped, and he had no choice but to abandon Rick and flee the hospital.
Lori no longer wanted to continue her secret affair with Shane. In a moment of impulse, Shane tried to force himself on Lori. Lori raised her hand and slapped Shane across the face, which brought him back to his senses, and he stopped pressuring her.
When Lori returned to her room, she lay down on her side. Rick came over and lay down beside her. Lori frowned, having no mood to talk to Rick. Rick thought Lori was worried about their survival in the days ahead, but in reality, Lori was troubled by her past secret affair with Shane.
Dr. Jenner explained to the group the process of living people turning into walkers after death. A video of a living person turning into a walker shortly after dying was played on the large screen. After watching the video, everyone felt anxious and fearful for their own safety.
The CDC was about to self-destruct. Andrea and a Black woman were willing to stay behind and perish with the CDC. Rick and his companions used a grenade to blow open a glass window and escape from the CDC building. Dale risked his life to persuade Andrea to flee; finally, Andrea was convinced by Dale and left the building, while the Black woman stayed behind with Dr. Jenner, waiting for the explosion countdown.
Dale pulled Andrea out of the CDC building, and the two took cover behind a pile of sandbags just as the building exploded. The massive force of the explosion destroyed the entire building. The group sat in their cars, watching the building collapse in flames—before long, it was reduced to rubble. Dale brought Andrea back to the car, and the group split into several vehicles, leaving the now-nonexistent CDC and embarking on an uncertain journey.
