After the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) exploded and was destroyed, the group embarked on an unknown journey. They arrived at a highway lined with abandoned cars to take a break. Shane noticed that one of the cars was filled with water. Although food was scarce in the era of the walker outbreak, Shane did not cherish the water; instead, he poured it over his head and showered thoroughly.

Rick, holding a sniper rifle, spotted a single walker approaching not far away. Dale stood on the roof of a bus, looking through binoculars, and saw three or five walkers coming from a distance—with even more walkers following behind them. The total number of walkers was at least two to three hundred. Shocked, Dale quickly lay down on the roof and dared not move again. Rick and the other companions immediately looked for places nearby to hide.

Andrea was sitting inside a car, assembling a handgun. The loud noises made by the large group of walkers passing by outside the car startled her. A walker stumbled over to the car where Andrea was hiding. Terrified, Andrea hid in a small compartment inside the vehicle.

While hiding from the walkers, T-Dog accidentally cut himself on a sharp metal edge. Some walkers began to track T-Dog by following the scent of his blood. Daryl quietly tailed one of the walkers—since the walker’s attention was focused on T-Dog, Daryl acted quickly and killed it.

Inside the compartment, Andrea fumbled with assembling the handgun in a panic. The walker that had been wandering around the car heard the sound of the handgun being assembled. Andrea tensed up, ready to fight the walker. When the walker tried to break into the compartment to attack her, Andrea’s survival instinct kicked in, and she killed the walker.

Rick carried Sophia and fled the highway, arriving at a dry riverbed. A few scattered walkers left the road and walked toward the river. Rick placed Sophia in a hidden spot by the riverbank, then returned to the shore to lure the walkers away. But when Rick came back to the river, Sophia was nowhere to be found.

Daryl helped Rick search for Sophia. A walker that had just fed caught Rick’s attention. Daryl cut open the walker’s stomach to check for any human remains. There were some food residues left in the walker’s stomach; Rick put on gloves and examined it carefully, but the mixture of debris inside made it impossible to identify what the food had been.

The group arrived at a church, but Sophia was not there. Carol looked disappointed and grew increasingly worried about her daughter. Andrea, exhausted from the long and tiring journey, collapsed onto the ground.
Rick and Shane accompanied Carl into the woods to hunt. The three of them spotted a large, strong deer.
