Daryl was beating Randall inside the warehouse. Forced to comply, Randall honestly revealed details about the size and weaponry of another group to Daryl. Daryl left the warehouse and relayed Randall’s confession to the others: the other group had around thirty members, and all the men in it were vicious individuals who enjoyed abusing women.
As an outsider with questionable motives, Randall had earned the hostility of everyone. The elderly Dale, however, held a compassionate view and hoped the group would spare Randall’s life. Even Hershel, who was usually kind-hearted, refused to take Randall in. With his persuasion failing, Dale had no choice but to talk to Shane—since the group planned to hold a meeting and vote on Randall’s fate, Dale only hoped to convince some members to side with him before the vote.
Shane, who was inherently belligerent, wanted to kill Randall just like the others. Dale watched helplessly as Shane walked away.
Andrea stood outside the warehouse guarding Randall. Carl snuck into the warehouse and stared at Randall with curiosity. Randall forced a faint smile to win Carl over; Carl let his guard down and approached Randall. Suddenly, Shane opened the door and walked in, warning Randall not to try using Carl. Shane took Carl out of the warehouse and scolded him severely.
Life on the farm was really boring, so Carl went into the woods alone. He spotted a walker in a swamp—the walker was as thin and withered as a dead tree branch. Carl walked to the edge of the swamp, pulled out his gun, and tried to shoot the walker. The walker stretched out its emaciated arm to grab Carl; Carl lost his balance and fell to the ground. The walker roared, crawled on the ground, and grabbed Carl’s legs. Panicked, Carl scrambled to his feet and ran away.
Everyone gathered in a room for a meeting to vote on Randall’s life or death. Except for Dale, everyone voted to kill Randall. That night, Rick, accompanied by Shane and Daryl, went to the warehouse to shoot Randall. Randall, his eyes blindfolded, was like a lamb waiting to be slaughtered. Rick raised his gun, but after a long moment of hesitation, he gave up the idea of killing Randall.
Dale went to the grassland alone and found a dead animal that had been bitten. A walker darted out from the side and attacked him. By the time the others rushed over upon hearing the commotion, it was already too late—Dale’s abdomen had been torn open by the walker, and there was no hope of saving him. Rick couldn’t bring himself to shoot Dale to end his suffering, so Daryl took the gun from Rick’s hand and shot Dale dead with a single bullet.
