Otis and Shane entered the hospital to find a respirator. After locating the device, they were surrounded by a horde of walkers. Otis covered Shane as he fled the lobby; Shane smashed a glass window, planning to jump down to the ground below. However, there was a noticeable drop from the window to the floor, leaving Shane hesitant at the window—unwilling to jump recklessly. As he focused intently on assessing the ground, a walker approached from behind, lunging at him with bared teeth and claws. Caught off guard, Shane fought back with all his strength, and both he and the walker tumbled out of the window. Fortunately, the window was not too high off the ground. After landing, Shane quickly got back on his feet, grabbed his backpack, and continued searching for an escape route.

Grieving over her missing daughter Sophia, Carol often sobbed at night. Daryl felt deep sympathy for her and decided to go out to search for Sophia. Even though venturing out at midnight meant a high risk of encountering walkers and losing his life, Daryl still pressed forward—accompanied by Andrea, he left the farm to search the surrounding areas for Sophia.

Lori was distraught over Carl’s severe injury. She and Rick stood in the outdoor hallway of the house and argued. Lori expressed approval of the CDC scientist’s choice to take his own life; living in a chaotic world where walkers could claim lives at any moment had left her physically and mentally exhausted, with no hope for the future. She reasoned that it would be better to follow the CDC scientist’s example and end her life rather than endure such suffering.

Shane and Otis fought their way through the walker horde, running as fast as they could. Having exhausted all their ammunition, they no longer had the means to fend off the walkers. In a desperate bid to save himself, Shane shot Otis and injured him. As Otis fell to the ground, he clung tightly to Shane’s hair, refusing to let go. Shane struggled with all his might to break free from Otis’s grip and fled, leaving Otis—who was unable to run due to a leg injury—to be torn apart and devoured by the approaching walkers.

Shane was utterly exhausted after his harrowing journey of fighting walkers. The hot water in the bathroom was already ready; he went inside, took off his outer clothes, and stood in front of the mirror. The mirror revealed a clump of missing hair on his head. As Shane stared at the bald spot, he recalled the moment he had abandoned Otis. Desperate to forget the sin he had committed, Shane shaved off his long hair and got a buzz cut.
