As night fell, the road was plunged into darkness. Lori regained consciousness from her coma. Some walkers wandered around the overturned car; once fully alert, Lori climbed out of the vehicle and killed all the walkers.

Rick had shot and killed Dave and Tony inside the bar. The two men’s accomplices arrived outside the bar and confronted Rick’s group. Rick, Glenn, and Hershel held their ground inside the bar, refusing to show themselves, and Dave’s accomplices began to attack the bar.

Lori had driven away from the farm to find Rick and hadn’t returned for a long time. The group gradually grew worried about her safety. Shane drove a car off the farm and onto the highway—Lori had already abandoned her vehicle and fled, but Shane found her by driving along the road.

Dave’s accomplices were no match for Rick’s team and prepared to retreat. Rick and the other two hid in the shadows, watching as Dave’s men got in their car to leave. A young man was stranded on the roof, too late to get back down. His accomplices in the car urged him to jump from the roof; in a panic, the young man jumped as told, only for his leg to be impaled by a sharp iron railing. His accomplices drove away amid his screams of agony.
Persuaded by Hershel, Rick and Glenn worked together to rescue the injured young man, and the group drove out of the town.

By the time dawn broke, Rick and the others still hadn’t returned. Shane and the others planned to drive off the farm to look for them—just then, Rick’s car pulled back into the farm. The three men got out of the car, remaining silent. Carl, overjoyed, rushed into Rick’s arms, while Maggie disregarded her father Hershel and hugged Glenn tightly.

T-Dog, with sharp eyes, noticed a man with his eyes blindfolded inside the car. Everyone followed T-Dog’s gaze and indeed saw the blindfolded man sitting in the back seat. Glenn introduced him to the group as Randall. Not long before, Randall had joined his companions in a gunfight against the small team led by Rick; during the evacuation, he had fallen from the roof and his leg was impaled by a sharp iron railing. The kind-hearted Hershel had convinced Rick to rescue Randall.
Randall’s leg injury was severe and required urgent treatment. The group discussed how to handle him—Shane opposed Hershel’s idea of taking Randall in, but Hershel reminded Shane that they couldn’t turn their backs on someone’s life or death.

Shane had repeatedly shown his irritable and belligerent side in front of everyone. Lori talked privately with Rick about what kind of person Shane was. Rick already knew that Shane had an affair with Lori, but Lori had been forgiven by Rick.
