Two walkers shuffled through a house. Rick led his team in, charging inside to kill the walkers. Afterward, the group rummaged through every drawer and cabinet in the house; Daryl wandered into a room and caught an owl.

With few resources left in the house, the group finished their search and returned to the prison. The entire prison was overrun by a large number of walkers, so they worked together to clear out the hordes surrounding the prison’s perimeter.

As night fell, the group sat around a campfire to keep warm. Beth sang a song for everyone—her beautiful voice cut through the darkness, bringing a touch of warmth to the group.
The next day, the group continued clearing walkers from the prison’s interior. Lori, who was pregnant, sat in a room talking with Hershel. Lori had lost all hope for the future; at the thought that she might also turn into a walker, she begged Hershel to kill her if that ever happened.

A few walkers wearing protective gear proved extremely hard to deal with. Maggie, however, accidentally drove her knife through the chin of one such walker—it turned out the chin was the vulnerable spot of walkers in protective gear. The others followed Maggie’s example and killed the remaining armored walkers.

Andrea had become separated from her team and was rescued by Michonne. Michonne always traveled with two armless walkers; the scent of the walkers masked her own human scent, keeping other walkers at bay. Michonne led Andrea on a search for shelter, and when Andrea fell ill and felt unwell, Michonne took meticulous care of her.

The prison “walker-clearing operation” continued. Rick led his team deeper into the prison to eliminate walkers. They entered a dim corridor, where a horde of walkers suddenly swarmed toward them, attacking the living. As everyone fought back fiercely, a walker tackled Hershel to the ground and bit his leg.

More and more walkers poured into the corridor, and Hershel’s leg wound—still bleeding—put him in critical danger. The group scrambled to help Hershel up and fled into a nearby room, slamming the door shut behind them.

Hershel’s bitten leg was bleeding profusely; it wouldn’t be long before he turned into a mindless walker. With no time to waste, Rick swung his knife hard at Hershel’s injured leg. After several blows, Hershel’s leg was amputated. Just then, the group suddenly heard gasps of astonishment from nearby—they were coming from a few male prisoners locked in a separate cell block. The prisoners stood inside their cells, staring through the bars at Rick’s team in utter amazement.
