Star Wars: Skeleton Crew Season 1, Episode 5: You Have A Lot To Learn About Pirates - Jods Gambit and the Secrets of Lanupa

In the fifth episode of Star Wars: Skeleton Crew, titled "You Have A Lot To Learn About Pirates," the saga of Jod Na Nawood and the children from At Attin, Wim, Fern, Neel, and KB, along with the enigmatic droid SM-33, takes a thrilling turn as they land on the opulent planet of Lanupa. The episode is a masterclass in suspense, action, and the slow unraveling of Jod's true intentions.

The plot thickens as Wendle, Wim's father, and Nooma, Neel's mother, back on At Attin, attempt to breach the planet's security systems to send a message to their lost children. Their urgency is palpable, as they realize the Supervisor's unwillingness to help and the ticking clock of their children's potential loss to the galaxy. Fara, Fern's mother and the undersecretary to the Supervisor, after weighing the pros and cons, decides to join the ranks of these rebellious parents, adding a glimmer of hope to the children's journey back home.

On Lanupa, Jod and the kids, with SM-33's guidance, find themselves in a glittering world of luxury and vice, a stark contrast to the desolation of At Achrann. The planet has been transformed into a playground for the wealthy, built atop the secret lair of pirates, including the legendary Captain Tak Rennod. Jod's past with Rennod and the Onyx Cinder, the ship they now command, is revealed, adding a layer of depth to his character and the ship's history.

The children, disguised as adults with Jod as their translator, must navigate the treacherous social landscape of Lanupa while avoiding the authorities and the bounty hunter Pokkit, who recognizes Jod as the notorious Dash Zentin. Jod's past betrayals come back to haunt him, as Pokkit's presence threatens to derail their mission and expose their true identities.

As they search for the entrance to Rennod's lair, the group splits up, with Jod leading one team and SM-33 guiding Wim and Fern in the other direction. Their journey is fraught with danger, from the hotel's security forces to the massive Cthallops, a walrus-like creature guarding the entrance to the lair. Through a combination of wit, skill, and a bit of luck, they manage to bypass the creature and the deadly traps that guard Rennod's secrets.

In a dramatic reveal, Neel uncovers a hidden device that SM-33 activates, finally disclosing the location of At Attin. However, Jod's true colors begin to show as he orders the acid bath refilled, presumably to eliminate their pursuers, and claims the treasure of At Attin for himself. The revelation that At Attin is home to an Old Republic mint, a source of unlimited credits, adds a new dimension to their quest and Jod's motivations.

The episode culminates in a power struggle between Jod and Fern, with Jod challenging her for the captainship of the Onyx Cinder. Wim's attempt to protect his sister with a lightsaber goes awry, and Fern is forced to yield, as Jod imprisons the children for mutiny. In a final act of defiance, Wim triggers a trapdoor, sending the children plummeting into the unknown below Rennod's lair.

The episode ends with Jod igniting the lightsaber, a symbol of his newfound power and the children's helplessness. However, it is clear that Jod still needs the children to access the mint on At Attin, setting the stage for a final confrontation. The children's journey has taught them that the galaxy is a complex and dangerous place, and their adventure has only just begun.

"You Have A Lot To Learn About Pirates" is a gripping installment in the Skeleton Crew series, offering a whirlwind of emotions, from the tension of the chase to the revelation of Jod's true nature. The episode is a testament to the show's ability to blend adventure, humor, and the harsh realities of the Star Wars galaxy into a narrative that is both engaging and thought-provoking. As the children's journey continues, they will need to rely on their wits and each other to navigate the treacherous path ahead and uncover the secrets that lie at the heart of their quest.
