The chilling tale of "Tarot (2024)" unfolds as a group of young adults, led
by the adventurous spirit of Elise, gather at an old, secluded mansion to
celebrate her birthday. The thrill of being in a remote location is only
heightened by the mysterious aura of the mansion itself. When the alcohol runs
out, it seems like a harmless pretext for the friends to explore the mansion,
but it's a decision that will lead them down a dark path.
Among them is Haley, a tarot aficionado with a deep understanding of the mystical arts. When the group stumbles upon a vintage collection of astrological items, including a hand-painted tarot deck, they persuade Haley to conduct readings. Despite her reservations about using a stranger's deck, she relents, unaware that the cards are cursed.
As Haley lays out the cards, she unwittingly sets in motion a series of tragic events. The first victim is Elise, who succumbs to the literal interpretation of her tarot reading. Her curiosity leads her to climb a ladder, only to be met with a gruesome death at the hands of a demonic entity.
The group, now aware that the tarot deck is more than just a collection of cards, begins to unravel the history behind the curse. They learn of Alma Astrom, a woman who has been tracking the deck since she narrowly escaped its deadly grasp in 1988. Alma reveals the tragic story of the deck's origin, tied to a 1798 Hungarian astrologer who was accused of witchcraft and sought revenge through a blood ritual, cursing the deck and binding her spirit to it.
In a desperate attempt to break the curse, Haley, Grant, and Paige return to the mansion, only to be met with more death and despair. Alma's own life is claimed by the spirit of the astrologer, leaving the remaining friends to face their own fates.
Haley and Grant, once lovers but now estranged, find themselves fighting not just for survival but also for a chance to reconcile their relationship. In a twist of fate, Haley's knowledge of tarot and her determination to not succumb to the curse lead her to a solution. She decides to read for the astrologer herself, hoping to break the curse by offering the spirit closure and peace.
In a climactic showdown, Haley's reading reaches the tormented spirit, convincing her to let go of her anger and pain. The astrologer's spirit, finally at peace, reunites with her daughter, and the curse is lifted. The deck is destroyed, and Haley and Grant emerge from the mansion, survivors of a harrowing ordeal.
The film concludes with a surprising twist as Paxton, who had been presumed dead, appears alive and well, having narrowly escaped his own fate. The three friends, forever changed by their experience, return to their lives, carrying with them the lessons of fate, friendship, and the power of love to overcome even the darkest of curses.
