Tehran Season 2, Episode 1: 13,000 - Under the Radar

The opening episode of Tehran's second season, titled "13,000," plunges viewers back into the high-stakes world of espionage and political intrigue, set against the backdrop of the Iranian capital. It's been two months since we last saw Tamar, the Mossad agent, and she's still very much on the run, this time with Milad, in Tehran. The episode begins with a chilling scene in Evin Prison, where a prisoner receives clothes containing a hidden pill and a cryptic note reading "13,000."

The prisoner's counting becomes a ticking clock, adding a layer of tension to the episode. As he rocks back and forth, counting up to the fateful number, the viewer is reminded of the high stakes and the constant threat of danger that permeates every moment of Tamar's life. Tamar and Milad are trying to live under the radar, but the risk of being spotted is ever-present. Milad's interactions with Azizi, a drug dealer, under the watchful eyes of dangerous men, highlight the precariousness of their situation. Milad is under pressure to sell drugs, and it's clear that he's feeling the heat.

In Milad's absence, Tamar is approached by several men who tell her that it's time to go. She's taken to an abandoned warehouse where she communicates with Yulia, who is now in charge of Mossad. Tamar is tasked with an operation to save a prisoner, the last of 15 pilots sent on a mission to destroy the Iranian reactor, which failed. Tamar's terms for the operation include the extraction of Milad afterward.

Meanwhile, in North Tehran, General Qasem Mohammadi's motorcade is en-route to the Supreme Leader's office. His recent appointment as Commander of the Revolutionary Guards and the upcoming Major General insignia ceremony add a layer of political tension to the episode.

Ali, unable to find Milad and Tamar, is reminded by Faraz that they are still in town. Faraz's determination to gain revenge for what happened in season 1 is palpable. The man counting to 13,000 finally reaches the number and collapses, foaming at the mouth, causing a power outage. This leads to the prisoner being taken to a different hospital, Ayandegan, for safety. Faraz, upon learning of the hospital transfer, realizes it's Tamar's doing and urges Ali to find the pilot. Ali races to the hospital, only to find the wrong man. The real pilot, with several agents, is eventually taken to safety, thanks to Tamar's traffic organization and Yulia's oversight.

The mission's success leads Yulia to give Tamar instructions on how to get to safety. Tamar takes a long hallway and exits into a taxi, ready to go wherever she needs to. Before she leaves, she calls Milad, who confirms he has the money to pay off Azizi, and they will be able to leave. However, Milad's realization that Tamar has "gone back to them" (Mossad) leaves him unsure of what to do. Faraz spots him in his deliberation and decides to follow. Meanwhile, General Qasem Mohammadi's speech sends ripples through the Mossad ranks. After the hospital incident and the pilot's rescue, he kills four high-ranking prisoners, including Arezoo, Tamar's aunt, promising no mercy for the traitors of the state.

The episode ends on a cliffhanger, with Tamar's future uncertain and Milad's loyalty tested. The political ramifications of the pilot's rescue and the General's actions set the stage for a season filled with tension and betrayal. "13,000" is a gripping start to Tehran's second season, leaving viewers on the edge of their seats and eager for more.
