Episode 4 of Fallen delves deeper into the intricate web of deception and
danger that surrounds the residents of Willow Creek Institute. The episode opens
with a security campaign led by Tasha to capture or kill the lake creature that
attacked Luce.
At the institute, Luce has altered her story about the lake encounter, attributing it to a traumatic childhood experience. Meanwhile, Gabbe's eagerness to please Dr. Howson grows, and a meeting between Ms. Sophia Miriam and Howson reveals the capture of a lake creature, now referred to as an Outcast.
During morning exercise, Luce and Daniel discuss their encounters with the Outcast and their shared belief that Dr. Howson has been manipulating their memories. Additionally, Luce learns that Cassie was decrypting the laptop and Tasha interrupts their conversation to assign them to sparring groups.
Sophia and Howson's meeting reveals that the Outcast possessed a triangle-shaped shard, similar to the one found in Cassie's wound. Howson suggests that another Outcast might have killed Cassie, and Sophia proposes canceling an upcoming event and executing the creature. However, Howson reminds her of the council's unanimous vote requirement.
Luce seeks information from Roland, who connects her with Marv, Cassie's courier. Although Marv cannot decrypt the laptop, Luce convinces him to send it to the media. Despite a raid on his room, Roland manages to retrieve the hidden phone and promises to give it to Luce.
Penn receives a surprising visit from Arriane, who apologizes for the lake incident and shares a childhood memory. Elsewhere, Edward, believed to be dead, is revealed to be alive and held captive in a similar institute. His escape and subsequent reunion with Penn lead to emotional turmoil and revelations about his ordeal.
Sophia continues her research while Howson confronts the Outcast, who unexpectedly transforms into his brother and taunts him. The Outcast's ability to shapeshift and access its subject's knowledge is mirrored by Luce and Daniel's shared visions of training together.
Marv, returning to Cassie's RV, discovers signs of a break-in and the decrypted data. However, an unknown entity scares him away.
Howson, deeply affected by his encounter with the Outcast, shares his theta wave disruption device with Sophia. They discuss the creatures' telepathic abilities and the Veil's purpose in blocking their transmissions.
Roland and Cam decide to deliver the decrypted files to the institute before sending them to the media, but Luce is displeased. Arriane's deception of Penn leads to further questioning and revelations about Sophia and Penn's father.
Eugene's advances towards Molly are revealed, and at the campfire, Daniel and Luce share personal stories and Arriane apologizes to Penn again.
Howson's interrogation of the Outcast is interrupted by an intruder, later revealed to be Edward. The episode concludes with the arrival of Edward at the institute and Penn's capture. Luce, Daniel, Roland, and Cam obtain the encrypted files, and it is revealed that Arriane has been at the institute for 20 years.
