Maeve was walking through Westworld with Logan and her companions when a samurai suddenly appeared, blocking their path. She recalled seeing such figures in the laboratory before. The narrative designer, Sizemore, quickly explained that they had now entered Shogun World, a world designed for visitors who found Westworld too tame.
Maeve attempted to use her voice-command ability to control the samurai, but he seemed to anticipate her trick and ordered his men to gag her. Then, Maeve and her group were taken away.
Upon entering Shogun World, modeled after Japan's Edo period, Maeve realized that aside from the setting, everything felt eerily familiar. They witnessed samurai executing trespassers, the sudden appearance of a female assassin, as well as entertainers and a madam—all mirroring events from their own experiences. Sizemore, amused yet annoyed by their surprised expressions, explained that due to time constraints, he had reused many storylines, including those here.
After the samurai slaughtered their enemies, they entered Madame Akane's entertainment house and demanded her hospitality. The female assassin, who had received help from the snake-woman Armistice during the fight, decided to release Maeve and the others. When the female assassin looked at Armistice, she felt a strange connection; Armistice knew clearly that this assassin was her mirror image—they understood each other's thoughts.
When the samurai's subordinates tried to assault a beautiful entertainer named Sakura after looting, Maeve burst in and stopped them. She told Madame Akane that she knew how this story would end.
Though Madame Akane was Maeve's narrative counterpart, she hadn't yet seen the truth as Maeve had. Watching Akane and Sakura, Maeve was reminded of herself and her own girls and felt a strong urge to help. She decided to guide Akane through this storyline and ensure she had a better ending.
According to the storyline, a daimyo sought to purchase Sakura, but Akane, who deeply cared for her and knew the daimyo would treat her inhumanely, firmly refused the envoy's demand. Sizemore, familiar with the script, began spoiling the next developments to Maeve, saying Akane would eventually give in under threat. However, to protect Sakura, Akane unexpectedly killed the envoy. As the narrative designer, Sizemore was shocked by this deviation from the script, but Maeve proudly told him that Akane had other choices.
With the daimyo's envoy killed, retaliation was inevitable. The samurai, Akane, and Maeve collaborated to plan their escape under cover of night. That evening, Maeve sensed danger, and sure enough, a group of ninjas stealthily launched a night attack. A fierce battle ensued—they were in the open, while the ninjas struck from the shadows. Maeve used voice commands to control some ninjas and aid the samurai. However, one ninja covered her mouth from behind, preventing her from speaking. As Maeve struggled desperately, a stream of chaotic code seemed to flash through her mind. She glanced at the ninja and mentally commanded him to kill himself. The ninja immediately released her and followed her order to commit suicide.
Logan, witnessing all of this, was left with mixed emotions.
After dealing with the ninjas—killing some and driving others away—the situation was still far from resolved. Sakura had disappeared during the chaos, undoubtedly captured by the daimyo's men.
