In its current condition, the Razor Crest was unlikely to make it to the Corvus system. After much thought, the Mandalorian decided to land on Nevarro and seek help from his old friends. Greef Karga and Cara Dune, now the planetary administrator and marshal respectively, had transformed Nevarro into a vibrant trade hub for the sector, bustling with resources and activity. Repairing the Razor Crest would be no problem for them. However, Greef also needed a favor from the Mandalorian: to eliminate a threat near the trading outpost.

The old cantina had been converted into a school, where the Child would be well cared for. After settling the Child, the Mandalorian followed Greef and Cara to their office. Upon entering, he saw the Mythrol he had once arrested. At the sight of the Mandalorian, the Mythrol panicked, expelling a cloud of water vapor from his gills. Years ago, he had stolen from Greef and was captured via bounty. Now, he was working for Greef to pay off his debt—a process that would take 350 years. Any attempt to escape would make him the Mandalorian's prey again. The mere thought of being carbonited made him tremble.

Greef pulled up a holographic map, revealing a blue marker in the lava flats due south of the green trading zone. It was an abandoned Imperial base, the very one Moff Gideon and his troops had occupied. After Gideon's defeat, the vast stockpile of weapons and supplies inside had become a prime target for black market dealers. To prevent those weapons from flooding the market, Greef and Cara planned to destroy the base.

The base's power came from a reactor located in a "heat well" within the volcanic crater. By draining the cooling towers, the reactor would overload and explode within minutes. Once the plan was set, the three of them boarded a four-seater speeder bike. The Mythrol, though reluctant, piloted the bike deep into the lava flats.

Following a path formed by hardened lava flows, they reached the mountainside and spotted the elevator door in the distance. Due to the extreme heat, the door controls were unresponsive. Using his jetpack, the Mandalorian flew to the top platform. A stormtrooper's scream echoed as he plummeted to the ground, and the elevator doors slid open.

Swallowing his fear, the Mythrol rode the elevator up with Greef and Cara. The platform was littered with the bodies of stormtroopers—clearly, Imperial remnants still occupied the base. The Mythrol's eyes lit up at the sight of a brand-new Tracksler Marauder parked on the platform; it would fetch a high price on the black market. But Greef and Cara had no time for such thoughts. They fought their way through the corridors, eliminating stormtroopers, until they found the heat well and shut down the cooling systems.

With less than ten minutes until the explosion, they found their escape route blocked by a large squad of stormtroopers. The Mandalorian quickly decided to find another way out. The four stumbled into a control room occupied by two individuals in technician uniforms. Strangely, one fired at the Mandalorian's group while the other shot at the control console, as if trying to destroy something inside.

After neutralizing both, the Mandalorian noticed a wall lined with transparent tanks filled with liquid, each containing a motionless, unidentified creature suspended within. Cara realized this was not a military base but an Imperial laboratory. The control console stored experiment logs. Pulling up the most recent report, the Mandalorian was stunned to see Dr. Pershing appear on the holographic recording. Dr. Pershing was the Imperial scientist who had received the Child on Nevarro. According to his report, the experiment failed due to insufficient blood samples from the Child. The report was dated three days ago and addressed to Moff Gideon. Greef and Cara were alarmed to learn Gideon was still alive. The Mandalorian grew anxious, knowing Pershing was still pursuing the Child.

The Mandalorian jet-packed out of the crater through the nearest heat well and headed straight for Nevarro. Without jetpacks, Greef, Cara, and the Mythrol had to fight their way back to the mountaintop platform. The elevator was now under stormtrooper control. Thinking quickly, Cara jumped into the Marauder assault tank, and with Greef and the Mythrol inside, drove it off the hundred-meter-high platform.

The tank crushed the speeder bikes parked at the elevator entrance. Cara,no time to mourn the loss, drove evasively under stormtrooper fire. Greef manned the tank's cannon, destroying the pursuers. A tremendous roar echoed behind them as a mushroom cloud rose over the base. Before the three could celebrate, four TIE fighters emerged from the direction of the base.

Ahead lay a mountain pass; beyond it stretched the vast lava flats, where the ground vehicle would be vulnerable to air attack. Greef managed to shoot down one TIE fighter, but the other three moved into attack formation, ready to strike the sitting duck. Suddenly, a laser blast destroyed one of the TIE fighters. The remaining two, recognizing the new threat, split up—one climbing, one diving—to evade the attacker.

It was the Mandalorian in the fully repaired Razor Crest, coming to their aid. Using his expert piloting skills and the Razor Crest's superior speed, he quickly dispatched the fleeing TIE fighters. He didn't land, instead bidding farewell to his friends over the comms. Then, with the Child aboard, he set course for the Corvus system. He left the matter of explaining the explosion to the New Republic to the shrewd Greef. But the Mandalorian didn't know that Moff Gideon, learning from his previous defeat, had already planted a spy on Nevarro. A tracking beacon, secretly placed on the Razor Crest, was now transmitting his flight path directly to an Imperial receiver.
