Rick And Morty S3E5

Jerry huddled on the foldable sofa in his temporary apartment, staring blankly at an old photo of the family dinner on his phone — Beth’s smile, Summer’s silly face, Morty’s vacant look, and not a single spot for him. The loneliness after the divorce overwhelmed him like a tide, and his sorry state was caught by Morty, who had come to drop off daily supplies. Seeing his father forcing a brave front, Morty’s heart softened. He immediately blocked the garage entrance and pressured Rick into taking Jerry on a space adventure, citing "family harmony" as the reason. Rick rolled his eyes and complained, "That’s the lamest abduction excuse I’ve ever heard," but ultimately gave in to Morty’s persistence, yanking Jerry — who hadn’t even pulled up his pants — into the spaceship in one swift motion.

Their destination was the Spiral Resort, located at the edge of the universe. This luxurious facility, suspended amidst purple nebulae, was encased in an Immortality Force Field — no matter what fatal injuries one sustained, they would fully regenerate within seconds. As soon as they stepped into the lobby, an alien waiter’s tray pierced straight through Rick’s chest, but he calmly took a cocktail without changing his expression. The sight nearly scared Jerry out of his wits. The resort’s signature attraction, the Death Roller Coaster, took the immortality concept to its extreme: half the track lay inside the force field, while the other half was exposed to the void. The local guide grinned and explained, "Screams on the left are for pleasure; screams on the right are last words." As the two experienced the weightless drop, a mysterious alien man in a black trench coat watched them from the shadows. He was Lesotho Grupp, the former alien overlord whose kingdom had been seized by Rick.

While Jerry was using the restroom, he was sucked into a hidden room by the toilet’s hair dryer. The restaurant’s general manager, who bore a grudge against Rick, quickly struck a chord with Jerry. "Rick tore your family apart just like he destroyed my kingdom," Lesotho said, sliding a glass of glowing green wine toward Jerry and revealing his revenge plan: using the force field blind spot on the roller coaster track to detonate an explosive device as Rick passed by. Jerry stared at the flickering light in the wine glass, thinking of Beth’s unwavering determination during their divorce and his own struggle to even pay the utility bills. After a moment’s hesitation, he nodded. Little did he know that this supposed ally, bound by a shared enemy, was merely using him as a disposable pawn.

Meanwhile, another farce was unfolding back at the Smith residence on Earth. Summer slammed the door open in a fury. Her boyfriend Ethan had just broken up with her, claiming she was "not attractive enough because of her small chest," only to be seen parading around with their busty classmate Tricia shortly after. Staring at her reflection in the mirror, Summer’s self-esteem shattered completely. Her eyes suddenly landed on Rick’s Morph Reshaper on his lab bench. The words "genetic optimization" in the instruction manual sparked an idea. Hoping to "tweak her appearance just a little," she activated the machine. Unfamiliar with the parameters, her body immediately swelled up like a balloon, her skin stretching tight and shiny, until she transformed into a grotesque giant nearly ten meters tall.

Morty panicked and reached for his phone to call Rick, but Beth stopped him. "We can fix this without Rick," she insisted, her competitive streak flaring up. Putting on a lab coat, she circled Summer, adjusting the machine’s frequency one minute and injecting homemade serums the next — only making things worse. Not only did she fail to shrink Summer back to normal, but she also accidentally hit the "reverse button," turning her daughter into a horrifying inside-out monstrosity, her throbbing organs and blood vessels visible for all to see. In a panic, Beth dialed the technical support hotline printed on the machine, but failed to hear the warning in the automated message about "releasing maintenance personnel," unlocking three tiny aliens trapped inside the device. Before the overalls-clad little beings could finish shouting, "Finally free!", a terrified Beth mistook them for pests and chased them around the house.

Back in space, a twist emerged on the eve of the revenge plan. By the campfire, Rick unexpectedly handed Jerry a beer, his tone softening for a rare moment. "I know you think I ruined your life, but Beth didn’t choose you out of pity — never." He recounted how, as a child, Beth would always bring injured birds home. That kindness was her greatest strength, but it also made her vulnerable to being burdened by weakness. "You deliberately act helpless to make her feel like she has to take care of you," Rick said. His words hit Jerry like a needle to the heart. The next day, as they waited in line for the roller coaster, Jerry watched Rick humming a tune and adjusting his seatbelt. A sudden surge of conscience made him pounce, pushing Rick out of the way just as the explosive device was about to detonate.

After escaping, Rick and Jerry planned to take a space flight back to Earth. However, due to the complexity and power of Rick’s body modifications, he was forced to inject a Violence Suppressant that slowed his neurotransmitter synaptic responses, leaving him acting slightly muddled. To their surprise, the restaurant manager had tracked them down to the ship. After hijacking the vessel, the manager intended to let Jerry go and kill Rick — but Jerry refused to flee. Just before the ship entered a wormhole, he held the manager back, preventing him from killing Rick. When the manager broke free and raised his gun to shoot, the wormhole’s effects plunged everyone into hallucinations. As the illusions faded, Rick’s bodily restrictions were lifted as well. He effortlessly took down the enemy without breaking a sweat.

The chaos on Earth finally subsided with Morty’s intervention. After figuring out the Morph Reshaper’s mechanics, he first restored Summer to her normal form, then dragged the machine to find Ethan, who was camping nearby. "You think big boobs are everything?" Morty said flatly, activating the device and twisting Ethan’s body into a grotesque blob — his head on his stomach, limbs contorted like twisted rope, leaving only a mouth that could still scream. Looking at the pitiful sight, Summer suddenly felt silly for being upset earlier. She patted Morty on the shoulder and said, "It’s messed up… but I love it."

In the post-credits scene by the river, the three tiny technical support aliens were fishing on vacation. As the deformed Ethan limped past, one of them managed to blurt out, "What the hell is that?" before being snatched away by a diving eagle. The remaining two stared at each other in silence, then went back to fishing. In Rick and Morty’s universe, absurdity is the norm — and peace is always just a temporary reprieve.
