Both Bernard and the developer found Abernathy special and hoped to reintroduce him into Westworld.
Maeve, who played the role of a madam in the park, had recently been experiencing memory glitches. Fragments from her past kept surfacing, causing her to suddenly fall silent while entertaining guests. The operations team, noticing her abnormal behavior, decided to decommission her.

Back in her role as madam, Maeve became more flippant and aggressive than before. Despite the adjustments, her memories grew clearer, and she began having nightmares. She recalled having a daughter and living a simple, happy life together until it was shattered by a sudden attack from Native Americans. The brutal tribe killed everyone around them and targeted her and her daughter. They barely escaped with the help of a cowboy. Terrified, Maeve fled home with her daughter, only to find a Native American at the door. She grabbed a gun, ready to fight, but the door opened to reveal the Man in Black. In a panic, she shot at him multiple times, but he remained unharmed.
Realizing she was in a nightmare, Maeve used her self-devised calming technique—counting "three, two, one"—to wake herself. To her horror, she found herself in an operating room surrounded by unfamiliar sights. Two medical staff were performing surgery on her, and they were equally surprised to see her awake since she should have been under sedation.
Maeve snatched a knife, threatened the staff, and fled the operating room. Dragging her partially operated body, she ran through the strange environment until she reached a cleaning and processing room. The scene there shocked her: numerous naked hosts were being processed by medical staff. Overwhelmed, Maeve collapsed to the floor. The pursuing medical staff quickly sedated her and took her away.
Dolores continued playing her role as a farm girl in Westworld, but she hadn't forgotten past events. In the dead of night, she went to the backyard, dug up the soil, and unearthed a pistol buried there at some unknown time.
