This unintentional joke hit the mark—the patterns carved on the stone were almost identical to the Orion constellation. Elsie had a gut feeling that something was about to happen.
As night fell, Teddy and the group ventured deeper into "Wyatt's" territory but were ambushed. Most of their companions were brutally killed by masked indigenous people. Teddy was still struggling, though he knew the situation was hopeless. He urged one of his companions to escape and bring reinforcements.
Elsie and her colleague continued their search but, after a long time, still could not find the lone host. Elsie squatted down to relieve herself when suddenly she heard a strange noise coming from nearby rocks. She quickly pulled up her pants and went to investigate the source of the sound, discovering the lone host stuck in a deep pit formed by two rows of rocks. Elsie immediately called her male colleague over, and they used a controller to put the host into sleep mode. The male colleague tied a rope around himself and descended into the pit to begin working. They did not plan to rescue the entire host, as long as the head remained intact, they could continue their research and reset a new host. Just as the male colleague took out a knife to begin cutting off the head, the host suddenly woke up. No matter how Elsie operated the controller, the host would not respond. The host overpowered the male colleague, climbed out of the pit, and then lifted a nearby rock over his head. Elsie was terrified, her legs weak, certain that the next moment would bring her death by crushing.
Unexpectedly, the host used the rock to smash his own head. Elsie, relieved by what she saw, fell into deep thought.
In a previous meeting with Ford, Bernard learned that Ford had once had a partner named "Arnold" who had since passed away. Unlike Ford, who always saw the artificial humans as mere objects, "Arnold" treated them as conscious individuals. Bernard asked about this person because recently, the term "Arnold" had appeared in the dialogues of many hosts. After hearing Ford's explanation, Bernard became even more convinced that some programs left behind by "Arnold" during his lifetime still existed within the minds of these artificial humans. This aligned with Bernard's own inner thoughts.
Bernard met with Dolores again. This time, he did not force her to answer his questions according to her programmed settings. He hoped she could freely expand her thinking. Dolores did not know whether she understood, but ideas and intertwined memories began to take root in her mind.
Dolores began another new day, but this time, Teddy did not return. At night, she returned home alone to face the death of her parents. Just as she was about to be violated by an outlaw, she grabbed the gun she had hidden and shot the outlaw. While fleeing, Dolores was also shot, but when she touched the wounded area, she found it completely unharmed. Her thoughts began to spiral, and she stumbled around, completely out of control.
The young man was camping overnight in the wilderness when suddenly, a staggering figure approached him. Dolores, unable to support herself, collapsed into the young man's arms.
