A desperate "T-Bag" pulled out a knife and threatened Michael, demanding that he lead them out of the prison. However, the newly replaced pipes now separated them from Lincoln in the infirmary.

Lincoln explained to Sara, who had just entered the room, that he had gotten out of bed because he felt nauseous. The guards who followed immediately handcuffed him to the bed. Meanwhile, Bellick rushed to the guard station and found Michael and the others, who had just emerged from the tunnel acting casually. Though deeply suspicious, Bellick found no evidence of wrongdoing and could only order them back to their cells.

Michael met Sara in the infirmary and saw Lincoln in the adjacent room. He urged Sara to speak with her father about the case to help clear Lincoln's name, but Sara felt powerless to intervene. Meanwhile, Nick and Veronica managed to persuade a court clerk to arrange for a judge to hear their appeal.

During yard time, Westmoreland's words sparked a new idea in Michael: short-circuiting the electric chair to buy three weeks. Unbeknownst to them, Tweener overheard fragments of their conversation. With Sucre's help, Michael entered the tunnel, captured a rat, and infiltrated another pipeline. When Tweener mentioned the electric chair to Bellick, it raised his suspicions. Subsequent inspections revealed a dead rat on the high-voltage circuit, which had blown the fuse.

In court, despite Veronica and Nick's passionate arguments, the judge remained unconvinced due to a lack of substantial evidence. Michael was granted a final visit with Lincoln before the execution, leaving him deeply shaken. Sara sought out Nick and Veronica, obtained the case files, and brought them to her father, Governor Tancredi, urging him to review the materials carefully.

As the execution time approached, the governor—yielding to the Vice President's influence—called to deny Lincoln's clemency, crushing their last hope. Veronica and Michael, separated by a yellow line, embraced Lincoln one last time, watching helplessly as he was led to the execution chamber.
