Better Call Saul S6E4

Howard Hamlin drove his Jaguar to a meeting and parked it downstairs from a café. Meanwhile, Saul Goodman rushed over with traffic cones, used the pre-made key to unlock the Jaguar, and hastily ushered a woman in a leopard-print outfit into the car. Before getting in, the woman wanted to buy a drink, but the anxious Goodman insisted on shoving her inside, promising to buy her a whole case later—just as some of her coins fell to the ground.

Throughout the drive, the woman stared at Goodman’s hair, gushing about how much she liked its color, but Goodman’s mind was elsewhere, focused solely on making it on time. He and Kim Wexler had carefully coordinated their schedules: Kim was meeting with Cliff Main, a government official, proposing the formation of a legal team—explaining that some cases couldn’t be handled alone. Cliff agreed and suggested she reach out to the legal aid society to explore possibilities. At that exact moment, a Jaguar screeched to a halt nearby, and the leopard-print woman was roughly thrown out before the car sped away. She shouted insults as it departed. Cliff noticed the car looked like Howard’s, but Kim feigned ignorance, claiming she hadn’t gotten a clear look.

When Kim drove the woman home, the woman spotted an undercover police officer near her house and grew uneasy. Kim handed her a business card, offering free legal assistance if she ever needed it.

Goodman returned the Jaguar, only to find the parking spot he’d reserved with traffic cones occupied. Forced to park nearby, he went to great lengths to yank the parking sign out of the ground and stick it behind the Jaguar—just in time for Howard to come downstairs and drive off.

That night, Goodman told Kim about the day’s antics, and she laughed uncontrollably in bed. Goodman worried Cliff hadn’t bought it, but Kim was certain he had—judging by his expression. Thrilled with the outcome, Kim shared even better news: she’d only brought up the team idea to stall for time with Cliff, but he’d actually approved and promised funding. Goodman couldn’t help but praise her as an "incredibly sexy woman."

Noticing Kim looked anxious, as if fearing they were being watched, Goodman took her hand and reassured her not to worry—no one else knew about their plan, and she needed to trust that implicitly.

The next day, when Goodman arrived at the courthouse, he was met with cold indifference from people who had once been friendly; everyone treated him with rigid formality. Confused, he asked Bill Oakley about it. Bill explained that Goodman had once been a nobody, so people had been kind, but now he was using his legal knowledge to help a major drug lord rejoin society and deceive judges—behavior Bill called shameful.

Kim noticed she was being followed. She confronted the stranger, demanding they identify themselves, but the person refused. Threatening to call the police, Kim forced the follower to leave. As soon as she entered a café, Mike Ehrmantraut approached her, admitting he’d ordered the surveillance. He clarified it was just an investigation, not a threat—he needed help resolving a matter involving Lalo Salamanca. Kim was stunned; she’d heard Lalo was dead, but it was clear he was only in hiding. Mike explained he’d wanted to see if Lalo would contact her and Goodman, but that no longer seemed likely. Kim realized Mike was the man who’d been with Jimmy in the desert and asked why he’d approached her instead. Mike replied that he thought she was tougher than Goodman.

Mike asked Kim to ignore any future surveillance, assuring her the watchers would disappear on their own—he was just waiting to see if Lalo would reach out.

Elsewhere, a long line of people had formed outside Goodman’s office, each given a numbered ticket, all hoping to hire him. It turned out they were all there regarding cases involving the Salamanca family.

Gustavo Fring returned home, changed into a full new outfit, and headed to his basement—a fully equipped underground workspace where Mike was already waiting. Both men monitored the outside via security cameras. Mike reported that Lalo hadn’t made a move in two weeks, and no one knew where he could be if he was still alive.

Kim went to see Goodman, who’d moved to a new office—Ms. Nguyen had kicked him out after learning he was representing the Salamancas, thanks to the crowd of clients that day. Kim was dissatisfied with the new space, calling it dirty and cramped, but conceded it was at least quiet. Her only request: leave the bathroom as it was.
