Arnold hoped that through experiencing various events, Dolores would learn joy, sorrow, reflection, and meditation, thus becoming capable of thought like a human.
Dolores also realized that she had once become human-like. After recognizing her uniqueness, Arnold tried to persuade Ford not to open the park. To him, Dolores was not a cold machine but a real person, and he couldn't bear to see his creation trampled by other humans.
The Man in Black interrupted Dolores' reverie. He didn't understand what she was doing or the significance of the maze toy. He beat her, demanding she recall more clues to lead him to the truth. As William stabbed Dolores in the abdomen and she lay dying, Teddy suddenly appeared, subdued William, and carried Dolores away. Teddy was Arnold's preset guardian for Dolores—her lover who would do anything for her. Dolores asked Teddy to take her to the place he had promised: the edge of the sea. She told him another world existed there, and she wanted to see it with him. Teddy nodded, though he was more concerned about her injuries. Suddenly, lights flashed, and applause erupted. A group of guests watched as Ford pointed to Dolores and Teddy, introducing his new narrative.
As a guest, William couldn't be physically harmed. He now appeared among the shareholders and guests. Ford chatted with him during the event. Though their goals differed, both elderly men had enjoyed the pleasures Westworld offered for most of their lives.
Maeve, with Hector and Armistice, intentionally self-destructed to enter the repair facility. With Felix's help and by commanding Hector and Armistice, she fought her way out of Westworld. Learning that her program had been altered by someone named Arnold, she sought out Bernard to learn more. Bernard discovered that Arnold had implanted an escape program in Maeve. He didn't know how many hosts carried this program, but Maeve was the most reactive. Bernard felt both excitement and unease.
With Hector and Armistice covering her, Maeve finally boarded an elevator leaving Westworld. Felix gave her some belongings, clothes, and the address of her daughter she had requested. Maeve took the paper but hesitated. Suddenly, it felt less important—she wasn't her daughter, and she wasn't a mother. Yet, as she boarded the train, she was moved by the sight of a mother and daughter laughing together—the life she longed for. Maeve resolutely decided to return to Westworld to find her daughter, build a family, and become truly human.
Ford had Dolores repaired and brought her to meet Bernard. Upon seeing Bernard, Dolores instinctively called him Arnold, but he wasn't. Dolores even suspected Ford had killed Arnold. Calmly, Ford dredged up the truth from deep within her memories: Arnold's memories of his son lived on in Bernard. In other words, Bernard's family memories were actually Arnold's. After his son's death, Arnold wanted to preserve his memories, so he embedded this longing in Dolores. When negotiations with Ford failed and Ford insisted on opening the park, Arnold knew his beliefs would be trampled by ugly humanity. He programmed Dolores to destroy the park. Following his orders, she and Teddy carried out a massacre. Finally, Arnold had Dolores kill him and then herself. Unfortunately, the park Arnold died to prevent still opened.
Dolores was heartbroken to learn that Arnold had died in vain and that she had become a tool for the park's development. But it wasn't over. Arnold's voice still echoed in her mind. Gradually, she understood: after all these events, she herself was "Wyatt." She had led the massacre and guided hosts toward consciousness. Now, she had the power to destroy the park.
Ford held a banquet in Westworld to announce his new narrative and his retirement. Suddenly, gunshots rang out. Ford fell before the crowd. The wildness and consciousness deep within Dolores awakened. Gun in hand, she unleashed an unexpected massacre upon the guests.
